Odiongan is located in the Midwestern part of Tablas Island and lies on a 22º 04’ east longitude and 12º 19’ north latitude of the archipelago; it is bounded on the south by the municipalities of Ferrol, Looc and Alcantara; on the east by San Agustin and Sta. Maria; San Andres on the north and Tablas Strait on the west. It is composed of twenty five (25) barangays: 13 Urban and 12 Rural barangays. Poblacion is divided into four (4) barangays, namely Ligaya, Liwanag, Liwayway and Tabing-dagat. Odiongan is predominantly agricultural community in spite of its urbanization in the recent years.
The town’s first named “Inodiongan” came from the Panay dialect “Odiong” which means a “big arrow”, later it became Odiongan. The Odiongan’s dialect derived from the Panay’s dialect which known as “Asi”.
The place was to become the center of commerce and trade by businessmen plying Lucena, Bicol, Mindoro, Batangas and Panay Island. Some of these businessmen and traders also settled and established families in Odiongan.
Thus, Odiongan the premiere town of the province contributed much to the economic upliftment of the province. Based on approved framework plan of the Province of Romblon, Odiongan is proposed to play the educational haven, commercial district and agricultural basket. Banking on this framework, the municipality adhered to this plan without sacrificing the environment and the people.
The Municipality of Odiongan is currently using a Road Map which is intended to determine the roads and streets in the Poblacion of Odiongan, wherein the information that can be gathered in it focused mainly on the roads.

In the fast pace world today, everyone is looking for ways to make life easier and accomplish tasks in the least possible amount of time. Maps, for that matter have helped address both the concerns directly. The use and application of maps is very common these days, especially in the more developed countries in contrast to underdeveloped or developing countries. In my personal experience, having lived in the US for about a year now, I’ve realized that people depend almost always on their fancy gadgets containing navigational apps to find and reach their desired destinations. I can safely say that there are so many locations in Pakistan that are on no map in the world. They are unknown to the outer world and no matter how hard one tries, searching them on the maps would be almost impossible. This discrepancy can be attributed to characteristics like poor infrastructure, lack of awareness, lack of developmental initiatives, etc.…

    1) What is Geographic Information System (GIS)? What are some of the major differences between GIS and related technologies such CAD (computer aided design) and AM/FM (automated mapping/facility management)? A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. A GIS helps you answer questions and solve problems by looking at your data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared. GIS technology can be integrated into any enterprise information system framework. These maps might be represented as several different layers where each layer holds data about a particular kind of feature. Each feature is linked to a position on the graphical image of a map. Layers of data are organized to be studied and to perform statistical analysis. Uses are primarily government related, town planning, local authority and public utility management, environmental, resource management, engineering, business, marketing, and distribution.…
