A generation of people that are believed to be born within the 1980’s to early 2000’s. Millennials have developed work characteristics and tendencies from doting parents, structured lives, and contact with diverse people. Millennials are used to working in teams and want to make friends with people at work. Millennial employees work well with diverse coworkers. Millennials have can-do attitudes towards work, and look for feedback. They are willing and eager to take on many different tasks and have the mindset to accomplish every one of them. Millennials seek a challenge and do not want to experience boredom. They are the most educated generation — but even so, a majority remains undereducated. And since they entered the workforce in the midst of a downside economy, many also remain underemployed. Despite these downsides, the millennials as a group are very optimistic about what the future holds.
The immediacy of the social media technology they use has made it possible for them to interact almost instantaneously, without missing a beat. They have many different apps and programs that can be downloaded for instant communication. Being sociable among the younger generations is trending. Being connected with their friends and instant access to whatever they need is right up their alley. They need to have the internet at their fingertips because that’s what their use to. Their minds are connected to the internet and more involved with it, their life have to revolve around it. Not just using technology within the work force they use their virtual advances for just about anything from paying bills, keeping up with finances, purchasing goods and more. If update to date technology wasn’t involved with the work force, I think they wouldn’t be interested at all. They would be detached, bored and possibly lost on how to do Davis 2
things without the technology working for them. With them being so immersed within the technology force, can also make employees, lazy and less productive.
For the most part, the millennial generation is responding to the workforce in the way we’ve trained them to—they question, they challenge and they want to do it better. With that being said, the challenge for business leaders today are harnessing the talent and drive of the younger workforce to create the products and technology that will change the world. When it comes to millennials and what I think they value would be their work. Millennials have an urge to contribute to the world. Their work culture being another—having healthy work relationships is important to millennials. Part of having a healthy work culture is the expectation that supervisors will act as mentors to employees. Millennials admire the knowledge of the older and longer employees. Millennials don’t necessarily prioritize earnings, but rather money is at the bottom of the list. They also value earnings, an honest living and are dedicated to making the world a better place, rather than getting rich.
On the other hand, some people believe that some millennials are known to be the total opposite. Some can to be lazy, unproductive and not worth hiring. Some millennials are procrastinator’s, daydreamers, slackers or freeloaders. They want things giving to them without putting forth work. They complain about the problems but don’t contribute in anyways to making a difference, they actually contribute to it. The talk the talk but don’t walk to walk sort to speak. Relying on stereotypes won't help: they are overly simplistic and inaccurate (theguardian.com). They want fame and fortune with everything in between. Also, their maturity level can definitely be low, meaning actions don’t add up with age. Being young minded and having childish ways, they can also be takers not givers.

A baby boomer is someone who was born after World War II. The baby-boom generation lasted from 1945 to 1964. Seventy-six million American children were born during this time period. Baby boomers represent 29% of the U.S. population. This year these kids would be between forty-six and sixty-four years old. These children were born during a great social change in America.
