MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS & TARGETS FOR MY COUNTRY, ZIMBABWE
GOAL 1: ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY & HUNGER-health departments should encourage good nutrition& the government should educate people especially in rural areas better agricultural practices & subsistence farming skills, provide them with farming equipment so they can be able to provide food for their families &UNICEF in emergencies help displaced communities by providing them with food & latrines
GOAL 2: COMBAT HIV/AIDS, MALARIA& OTHER DISEASE -embark on outreach programs informing people about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, malaria ,measles ,polio & other threatening diseases & how they can be prevented and also providing with mobile clinics to places that are remote.
GOAL 3: IMPROVE MARTENAL HEALTH-avoid unwanted pregnancies among HIV negative women through family planning, HIV testing & counselling & timely access to antiretroviral therapy both for HIV infected mothers & for the prevention of mother to child transmission during pregnancy, delivery & breastfeeding.
GOAL 4: REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY-children below the age of 5 years should be immunized regularly from life threatening diseases like polio , measles, chicken pox, malaria ,tuberculosis , bilharzia from their time of birth
GOAL 5: ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION-the government should focus more on building more schools & ensuring that educational facilities & resources are available.
GOAL 6: PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY & EMPOWER WOMEN -women should be empowered economically & gender disparity should not be encouraged in all sectors & in decision making.
GOAL 7; ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY –by recycling, good environment practices
GOAL 8: DEVELOP A GLOBAL PATNERSHIP FOR DEVELOPMENT -small sector businesses should be funded & supported & also the manufacturing of import goods should be encouraged to improve national & international
