Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus
Disney Channel gave a young, teenage girl a chance to shine and become a star, and that is exactly what she did. In 2006, the television show Hannah Montana aired for the first time. Its main character was a young lady by the name of Miley Cyrus, daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus. She became the hottest new role model for young girls. Miley currently has been acting in rebellious ways to get a very dominate point across, that no matter what, be you, do not care what people think of you; should Miley be allowed to act in the ways she has just to get a point across to teenagers? For instance, Miley came out with her first hit single in a long time titled “We Can’t Stop” in 2013. It became a huge hit and everyone everywhere was singing along with Miley; shortly, after her song came out, she let her music video out to the song. In some people’s views and opinions it was very vulgar, and uncalled for. She showed off her new and older image that definitely was not the “Hannah Montana” everyone knew and loved. Parents started not allowing their children to view her ways. Obviously, again she was trying to get people to talk and get attention, and that is exactly what she did.
The television station MTV aired the 2013 Video Music Awards Miley, was lined up as one of the performers. She sang “We Can’t Stop” and wore exposing clothing along with dancing on and with props that sent out a message of vulgarity. The next day she was what people were talking about. Nobody agreed with how she acted, but it did not matter because she did not care what people thought. All she wanted was for people to talk once again and to get a point across to young people that it does not matter what people say, be who you are and do not care what think of you. Some reviews thought that Miley was portraying the wrong image for viewers and bashed her for the way she dressed. As a result of this, Miley did not let this bring her down; she still acted and dressed the way she wanted

Many critics have claimed that Miley Cyrus is exploiting African American culture. When someone is twerking, some people might say not to do that because it is ratchet or a black thing. Twerking would not have been exploited as a ratchet act if people knew how to behave properly. There is nothing fruitful in a ratchet culture. Those that take part in it are only portraying undesirable stereotypes, whether they knew it or not. Twerking is originally a part of the Cote D’Ivoire’s culture, but now everyone knows it as something that is sexualized in our society…

Also, it was deemed inappropriate by the Parents Television Council because MTV “falsely rat[ed] th[e] program as appropriate for kids as young as 14” (LA Times). The social control of deviance takes many forms, including the actions of the police (Henslin 195). On this particular behavior, social control happened right after the show aired, as many took to social media sites to respond and others voiced their opinion via television. For example, "Morning Joe" co-anchor Mika Brzezinski, on MSNBC, was not amused by the performance at all, calling it "really, really disturbing." She continued saying that Miley Cyrus was “deeply troubled, deeply disturbed” (LA Times). On NBC's "Today" show, guest co-anchor Brooke Shields, who played Miley's mom on "Hannah Montana," called the performance "desperate." Co-anchor Willie Geist, on Today show,…

On March 18, 2013, Beyonce Knowles-Carter leaked a song called “Bow Down,” where she instructed all of her competitors to bow down before her. In her estimation, there was no competition, she was aware of it, and anybody practicing in her arena was aware of it too. More importantly, her legion of adoring fans knew it as well. The song leak served as a stark contrast to what Beyonce had recently become known for releasing. Instead of the ballads of romance, anthems of girl power, unity and triumph, or the militaristic pronunciation of confidence and ego, this track releases scathing criticism and pompous boast over all of her contemporaries. The deviance from what normally typifies Beyonce’s sound and message did not extend to her fan base; this is to say that the reaction was largely the same. Regarding anything that has to do with Beyonce, there was instant conversation started. As an outsider who does not consider myself as a “lover” or a “hater” of Beyonce, I saw artifacts and texts everywhere that I went. On social networks, there were links sharing the song. There were comparisons between the newest song and previous singles from her catalogue. There were images that exulted Beyonce to a place of worship and then there were parodies of these said images. Blogs dedicated special release posts to discuss the piece. In person, I heard the song emanating from…

It might come as little surprise to discover that British parents have voted Miley Cyrus as the female celebrity they would least like as a role model for their children. In a poll of 2,287 parents with at least one child under 10, 78% voted Cyrus the worst example, followed by Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian. Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge – who has, of course, made a career out of marrying a very famous and wealthy man – was ranked the best female role model for their kids. Would Cyrus, an inspiration to plenty of young women navigating their adolescence, sexuality and body hair, care? Probably not.…

Hannah Montana, the television series, demonstrates the complications of attempting to maintain established family values, while being a teenage girl who has become famous and wealthy. Miley Stewart, also known as Hannah Montana, is repetitively attempting to balance her Tennessee, down-to-earth family values with the temptations of financial and celebrity success and how that reproduces greed. In the sense of a worldview, Hanna Montana mirrors a similar worldview to my own, by making an attempt never to hurt others and striving to replicate a solid awareness of right and wrong. In the sitcom, the characters of the family are made up of a nontraditional situation. It is made up of Hannah Montana’s single father, two best friends and her goofy brother. Although Hannah Montana may be thought as a low budget series founded on a spoiled teenage girl with a lot of fame, at the end of each show, Miley always comes back to her solid family values of doing what is right.…
