1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes.

There are many different forms of social media, but I will give a few examples. Magazines, such as People and Time, provide us with social news and relevant issues for society as a whole. ‘Chat’ - which can be video, audio, or textual – is a popular form of social contact. Podcasts, which are generally audio or video files for download, can be found in businesses and entertainment. Newspapers from all over the world can be found both online and in print, and provide

Positive feedback entices other consumers to try a new product, and negative feedback may stop some consumers from making a purchase they might otherwise have made. I bought a kitchen item based on positive reviews by other consumers, and I have not been disappointed. I did not buy a tool because other consumers said that it was not a quality product. As you can see, the commerce of these businesses was affected because of feedback left on social media sites.

5. How has the Internet changed the way many Americans consume information? Explain the importance and value of the availability of information on the Internet.

Information is available almost immediately now. Years ago, before the internet was the huge presence it is today, news was much slower to reach American citizens. By the time they learned of world events, the events were in the past. Now, we know about things as they happen, and can even watch video of major world events, in real time. Americans have come to depend on this immediate availability of information. As a whole, we spend a great deal of time watching news reports, videos, and reading news articles. I feel this immediate availability makes us more socially and globally conscious.

    Social media can be defined in a variety of ways. Some say social media is “content created and shared by individuals on the web using freely available websites that allow users to create post their own images, video and text information then and then share with either the entire internet or just a select group of friends [1].
