Michael Jordan Biography
In Michael Jordan's biography on the National Basketball Association (NBA) website, they state that,”By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.”. He was one of the best, winning countless awards, breaking many records, and making product endorsements. He is also the majority owner and head of the basketball operations for the NBA Charlotte Bobcats. Michael Jordan is famous because he is one of the best basketball players of the 20th century.
Michael Jordan was born on Feburary 17, 1963 in Brooklyn New York. A few years after he was born, his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where his mother, Deloris, worked as a banking sector at the local bank and his father, James, worked as an equipment supervisior. Michael loved his parents saying,”My heroes are and were my parents. I can't see anyone else as my heroes.” James and Delois had four other children. They were Larry, James Jr., Delois, and Rosyln. He idolized his older brother, Larry, and followed him by playing basketball.
Before he moved to Wilmington, Michael was considered a great athlete already at Trask Junior High in Brooklyn. He played baseball, football, and basketball in the school's team and won several awards such as the Dixie Youth Baseball Association's Mr. Baseball title and the Outstanding Athletes title. He attended high school at Laney High in Wilmington. At age 15, he tried out for the varsity basketball team and was unfortunately cut. But once he grew an astounding 6 foot 3 inches his junior year, and made the team. When he was a senior, he was chosen to become a member of the McDonald's All American Team.
He then started college at the University of North Carolina. He played basketball all throughout his time there and majored in cultural geography. While playing basketball, he started in the shadows, but then shone during the NCAA championship game against Georgetown. As a sophomore, he earned the College Player of the Year and won the award
