Question 1
a) “A literature review goes beyond the search for information”. Discuss the statement. (12M)
Answer - A literature review is a study of everything that has been written about a particular topic, theory, or research question that related to our selected area. It is not only about finding or searching the information, it may provide the background for larger work which is much more than a simple list of sources and make us understand more about the issue.
An effective literature review analyzes and synthesizes information about key themes or issue and it is actually the reading of the works of others before commencing on our own research work. Literature review can lead the way for better research. It can help in identifying the relevance of the research.
All works included in the review must be read, evaluated and analyzed. But relationships between the literatures must also be identified and articulated, in relation to your field of research. It should give a theoretical base for the research and help you (the author) determine the nature of your research. Works which are irrelevant should be discarded and those which are peripheral should be looked at critically.
It can be conclude that reviewing literature is an essential part in doing a research project. It can lead the researcher to answer the question problem and help to get the entire source in doing research activities.
b) Write APA format of referencing for a book written by Louise G. Swift and Sally L. Piff in 2010 titled “quantitative methods for business, management & finance”. The book is a fifth edition published by Macmillan Publisher Limited,

The literature review is more than a survey of various sources, but it is not a book review (“Subject Guides,” n.d.). It is…

The definition of a literature review is a critical look at what is written on a particular topic by an accredited author. A literature review situates your research focus within the context of the wider community in your field, reports your critical review of the relevant literature; and identifies a gap within that literature that your research will attempt to address. They are important because they seek to summarise the literature that is available on any one topic, prevent one ‘high profile’ piece of information having too much influence and present an analysis of the available literature so that the reader does not have to access each individual research report included in the review (Aveyard & Sharp 2011). There are different types of literature reviews but the most detailed type is often referred to as a systematic review. Systematic reviews were first defined as ‘concise summaries of the best available evidence that address sharply defined clinical questions’ (Mulrow et al 1997). A literature review can be organised in different ways. It may be either descriptive pieces of writing or a critical assessment of literature. The author must keep in mind that even a…

Literature review is a very important component of the research. It illustrates that the researcher knows the field of study. This implies more than reporting what the researcher read or interpreted. Rather, the researcher has to critically read the research and to write in a manner that shows that you have a vibe for the field; the researcher recognizes what the most critical issues are and their significance to the work, the researcher knows the contentions, comprehends what is disregarded, have the foresight of where it is being taken. This would permit the researcher to delineate field and position the study inside the context. It legitimizes the explanation behind the research. This is firmly associated with showing that the researcher…
