Mexican Food In America
A Taste of Mexico in America My significant other was born and raised in Mexico, until a few years ago when his family moved here. One may think this is a blessing for someone such as myself who loves Mexican food; however, it makes dinning out challenging on occasion. When eating at any Mexican restaurant he always says, “This isn’t real Mexican food,” or “That’s not how this is supposed to be made.” When trying to enjoy a nice dinner out, with no kids, it can be quite irritating listening to someone nag about how fake the food is, and that we are just wasting our money. Most Americans will never notice the difference unless they actually experience it themselves. This being said, Mexican food here in the United States is quite different from that made in Mexico, take these three traditional dishes: tacos enchiladas, and caldo and notice how they differ in each nation. The first dish is tacos. Mexican restaurants, like El Jimador and El Espolon, serve tacos quite differently than …show more content…
To begin, the contents of enchiladas differs in the U.S. and in Mexico. In restaurants, and even most American homes, enchiladas are made with beef or chicken wrapped in store bought flour tortillas. Meanwhile, in Mexico they are made with a corn tortilla and most often filled with cheese. The preparation also differs between the two nations. In America, for example, they are topped with a red or green sauce, maybe even a package mix and then baked in the oven. Finally, just before eating they are topped with lettuce sour cream and salsa. Whereas in Mexico the sauce is made entirely from scratch with dried chilies that have been boiled, and then ground with garlic and other ingredients. Sometimes they even use mole sauce which can be a meal of its own. The tortilla is dipped in the sauce then fried. Once the tortilla is fried place cheese in the center and roll it up while still warm; now add the toppings and enjoy a delicious authentic Mexican
