Metaphors In Poetry
While some people may think that an author does not use any sort of elements of poetry to write, they actually do use it more than we all know. They tend to exaggerate a lot when writing, making things seem “bigger” and more important. They also use metaphors to compare things to other things totally unlike them. They also use rhyming to its full capability to get their points acrossed. They use rhyme schemes in couplets to get their points across.
When an author is writing about something or just writing in general, they will use many many tools in whatever their writing, and exaggerations are one of which they use. They'll elaborate to make a point of theirs across, but while they do so, they'll exaggerate to make the point or conflict seem bigger and more key to the story. For example, they boy was so tall, he could see Florida from California. That's an exaggeration to make the boy seem extremely tall, when he's not really that tall. A metaphor is when you take something, and say it's something totally different. For example, one would say “the boy is so good at basketball, he might be Lebron James!” when he's really not Lebron. He's just another boy who likes basketball and has played it for years, therefore being good. Metaphors can be used anywhere at anytime. In writing, poetry, even speech, metaphors are to compare to something totally unlike themselves. Like saying an apple is so red, it blends in with your shirt or something. These will interest a reader and it gives the reader an imagery of what's going on at the moment of the story. It paints a picture you might say, in the reader's mind. I personally like hearing metaphors because it's kind of cool when somebody takes something, and says it's something
