Mercutio In Romeo And Juliet
Everyone, the Man of the Party, the man we all know - er, knew.. - and loved, Sir Mercutio! The character that I chose from Romeo and Juliet is, of course, Mercutio. Mercutio is the friend of Romeo and Benvolio and the relative of Prince Escalus. He is extremely relevant to the plot, for Mercutio provoked Juliet's cousin, Tybalt, causing the two to fight. "Come, sir, your passado." (III.i.80). Romeo attempted to intervene which gave Tybalt leverage to reach around him and stab Mercutio. The death of his friend angered Romeo, who then fought and killed Tybalt, thus granting him exile to Mantua and leaving the rest of the plot to fall into place. Symbols are most definitely a key element to nearly every story and can assist in portraying a character through subtlety. The symbols that I chose for my mask were: black feathers, red and black lace, mirrors, silver glitter and paint, a metal mouth guard (covered in metal tape for safety reasons), and three swords and a hilt for the handle. The silver base and glitter represent Mercutio's comedic stature. He is always attempting to make the matter into a joke and incorporate humour …show more content…
Besides, the eerie colour of my eyes and my generally horrible personality are enough. I don't know why anyone would want to be seen around me! In all actuality, the main reason I picked Mercutio was, yes, for comedy. Mercutio is a very comedic guy and I can most definitely relate to that. "That's as much as to say, such a case as yours constrains a man to bow in the hams." (II.iiii.45-46). Humour fuels me - my entire being is puns. Alright, Exhibit A: "What do you call a patronizing criminal going down a flight of stairs? A condescending con descending!"... No? Okay, how about: "What's the difference between a dirty bus stop and a lobster with breast implants? One's a crusty bus station and the other's a busty crustacean!" Ah, see? Crude humour. One could definitely say I could take a stab at Mercutio's

The character I have chosen is Friar Laurence he influences Romeo and Juliet by telling them the upcoming events in the near future. He has also married Romeo and Juliet despite Laurence being shocked by Romeo’s mishap with rosaline which did not give Romeo any affection, it also was an attempt to try to stop the civil Feud between the capulets and the Montagues. Friar also helps them both when Romeo is banished for killing Tybalt and as he runs to mantua Laurence helps Romeo and Juliet by making a potion to help fake Juliet's death but, as friar tries to send a letter to Romeo it doesn't go through because the villagers suspect it comes from a house that is infected. Friar is also too late to come to Romeo's suicide because Romeo thought he…

Every character in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet plays and important role in the decisions the title characters make. Similarly, Nurse facilitates their love affair which brings them to the point where they would rather kill themselves than be apart. The contrast between love and lust is drastic. Love is a hard thing to define but lust is a burning desire for another person, and it usually doesn’t last a very long time. Love can transform over years and still remain consistent. Lust is superficial when only the appearance is considered but nothing else, which can be called ‘love at first sight’. Lust is only a short-term relationship, whereas love leads to a deeper understanding of the other person and one develops affection and caring for them. Mercutio’s idea of love doesn’t involve commitment, is more realistic than Romeo’s view and Mercutio doesn’t allow love to inflict any pain. Romeo’s idea of love includes commitment, and has a deeper, more passionate love and he allows himself to be vulnerable to his emotions and lets them take over.…

Another significant character that contributes to Romeo and Juliet's death by thinking with his heart was Romeo himself. Mercutio is the best friend of Romeo. He decides to provoke a fight with Tybalt, Juliet's cousin. At first, the fight was for fun, but Tybalt ended up stabbing Mercutio, which resulted in him dying. Paris is in love with Juliet, but Juliet does not reciprocate his feelings. In the beginning, Paris is unaware of Juliet’s feelings for Romeo. Even in the very end Paris thinks Romeo is at the gravesite to destroy the tomb. Tybalt, a nephew to Lady Capulet, is another minor character. He is Juliet’s cousin and is not of Juliet’s relationship with Romeo. He has greater loyalty to Juliet’s father then Juliet herself. He ends up killing Mercutio in both the book and the movie. One character who contributes greatly to the tragic end of Romeo and Juliet is in fact Romeo himself. The reason why Romeo is involved in the death of Juliet and himself is because of his impulsive and rash decision making. Romeo reveals this flaw to Friar Lawrence in this quote:"I stand on sudden haste"[Act 2 scene 3 line 93.] Friar Lawrence recognizes this flaw and reminds him to "Go wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast." This impulse leads Romeo to rashly marry his latest love, the thirteen year old daughter of an enemy. Impulsiveness also leads Romeo to hold such anger at Tybalt, who killed his cousin, that he kills him. This starts a period of unlucky events that follow. Firstly, it forces Prince Escalus to banish Romeo from Verona, which ultimately leads to Romeo committing suicide.…
