At the end of each year the return that Costco realizes on equity capital can either be reinvested back into the business or paid out to investors as dividends and common stock repurchases. If no dividends or share repurchases were made and earnings were reinvested back into the business at the same incremental rate of return, the company's return on equity would hold constant over time.…

Madesco faces a contingent exposure. The company is not naturally hedged since the recent trend is that Mark appreciates against the Dollar. Despite the personal opinion of the Director of Finance that the Mark may have reached its peak and that it will fall in the next few months, the risk associated with exchange rate is very high. In any case, director’s opinion is not really supported by the recent economic reports that show further growth of the German GDP and even lower inflation rates. If both predictions happened to be realized, we know from the parity conditions that Mark will appreciate further.…

The Total Assets from the company represent a figure of 21,300 in the latest year, which represent a decrease of 3.82% from the previous year. The Current Assets sum up a total of 30.44% and 32.31% of the Total Assets as of January 2009 and January 2010 dates respectively, which represent a real growth, between the dates, of $142 to reach the $6,882. Part of this growth is due to the increase of 29.1% of the Cash and Cash Equivalents account, which in the later date is valued as $1,686; it also increase its participation in the total assets from 5.9% to 7.92% from one year to another. Also worthwhile mentioning is the significant reduction of the Accounts Receivable of 18.45% which varied $81 from the $439 figure we had in the FY08.…

The primary source that I analyzed was, “Colony in Danger of Demise; Cabildo Begs Viceroy for Soldiers and Supplies May 8,1705”. This was a letter written by the Santa Fe cabildo, sent on May 8, 1705 to the new governor and captain general (Governor Francisco Cuervo and Valdés). The letter requested for the viceroy to send supplies, for the members of the Santa Fe Cabildo. They needed supplies due to the frequent ambushes and invasions from the Native Americans. In the letter it states, “Their continues invasions and ambush have caused numerous deaths and robberies each and every day and will become worse due to their immediacy in the heavily wooded and high country which surrounds our settlements.” (Cabildo, 1705) The letter goes on to explain how they don't even have clean clothes, or clothing at all in that matter. Their living situation is very poor they continue to beg and explain their situation to the viceroy. The cabildo states, “Lacking all of this aid, it is certain that this settlement…

Course Description: This course is an introduction to the history of the United States from European colonization of North America to the Reconstruction. It is also an introduction to ways historians look at the past and think about evidence. There are two main themes. One is to understand the origins of the groups known as European‐Americans, Native Americans, and African‐Americans. Far from timeless categories, these “groups” and their “cultures” were created through concrete interactions among people from Europe, Africa, and North America in the place that became the United States. The second theme is to understand how political, economic, and social institutions emerged in the United States during this period. These require an assessment of what “democracy” actually meant as a series of practices by participants within the context of an economy that depended on slave labor and often‐violent land acquisition, as well as the subsequent implication of such interaction on social institutions.…

THE BIGGEST POPULATION SHIFT OF MODERN TIMES HAS been the colonization of the New World by Europeans, and the resulting conquest, numerical reduction, or complete disappearance of i1OSt groups of Native Americans (American Indians). As I explained in Chapter I, the New World was initially colonized around or before 11,000 BCE by way of Alaska, the Bering Strait, and Siberia. Complex agricultural societies gradually arose in the Americas far to the south of that entry route, developing in complete isolation from the emerging complex societies of the Old World. After that initial colonization from Asia, the sole well-attested further contacts between the New World and Asia involved only hunter-gatherers living on opposite sides of the Bering Strait, plus an inferred transpacific voyage that introduced the sweet potato from South America to Polynesia. As for contacts of New World peoples with Europe, the sole early ones involved the Norse who occupied Greenland in very small numbers between 4D, 986 and about 1 500. But those Norse visits had no discernible impact on Native American societies. Instead, for practical purposes the collision of advanced Old World and New World societies began abruptly in 1492 CE, with Christopher Columbus's "discovery" of Caribbean islands densely populated by Native Americans. The most dramatic moment in subsequent European-Native American relations was the first encounter between the Inca emperor Atahuallpa and the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro at the Peruvian highland town of Cajamarca on November 16, 1532. Atahuallpa was absolute monarch of the largest and most advanced state in the New World, while Pizarro represented the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (also known as King Charles I of Spain), monarch of the most powerful state in Europe. Pizarro, leading a ragtag group of 168 Spanish soldiers, was in unfamiliar terrain, ignorant of the local…

    Mercutio

Mercutio is one of the most unique characters in Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet". His language is always powerful and imaginative. He represents many different things in the play and holds an important role. Both of these categories will be explored in this essay, among other things. First of all, Mercutio is Romeo's friend. He is neither Montague, nor Capulet. Therefore, he has not been born into a feud and really has no side. However, his bond with Romeo does make him associated with the Montagues.…

Mercutio was a very strong and important character in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Mercutio had two main roles. He was not only the Prince's kinsman, but also Romeo's best friend and companion. His infamous lines and eccentric speeches live on in the hearts of all Shakespeare fans.

Mercutio was portrayed as an eccentric, intelligent and loyal friend to Romeo. His language was full of sexual innuendo and allusions to legend and myth. Consider this quote from Act 2, Scene 1, "an open et caetera, thou art a paper'in pear!" This quote is full of reference to sex. Or consider this one from Act 1, Scene 4, "O, then I see Queen Mab hath been with you. She is the faerie's midwife and she come in shape no bigger than an agate' s stone." Both these lines were addressed toward Romeo in hopes of sparking up his spirits. These lines are not only examples of Mercutio's vulgarity, but also of his intelligence and wit. Mercutio was also a very loyal friend to Romeo. In Act 2, Scene 4, Mercutio said, "Ah, that same pale hard-hearted wench, that Rosaline. Torments him so, that he will sure run mad."

So, if Mercutio was such a strong character, then why did Shakespeare kill him off? Although his death was a disappointment to "Mercutio fans," we must think as a writer and look ahead to the end of this tragedy. Perhaps it would be too difficult to have him reconcile with the Capulets after Romeo and Juliet's tragic deaths. Perhaps he was too strong a character to change his ways and make amends with his foes. Even so, with Mercutio's wit and grace, I would have enjoyed reading another of his long speeches.

Alas, the fact remains that Shakespeare terminated Mercutio's character on purpose. Thankfully he was an integral part of the story bringing wit, intrigue, and humor to the stage and for that we appreciate…
