The role of the mental health professional is to assist people in developing themselves both as an individual and their ability to keep and maintain healthy relationships. There are two ways the counselor accomplishes this, by creating and maintain healthy boundaries and by entering into the relationship with the stated point: the client’s needs come first (Association, American Psychological, 2016).
