Memorable Christmas
When I had eleven years old, I had the most memorable Christmas in my life. I grew up with my mom, dad, one sister, and twin brothers. On December 1991, it was excited and memorable for all my family as my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandmother because we went to my grandmother house to celebrate Christmas. My Uncle Marco rented a large bus to go to my grandmother’s house. My grandmother lived in a little town called Huacho, which is located about 100 miles from Lima (capital of Peru). All my family and I will never forget this Christmas because we enjoyed and celebrated.

We arrived two days before Christmas to my grandmother‘s house, my grandmother, Mamita, was waiting outside of the house. Mamita was excited to see us, so she hugged and kissed each of one. Also, she took us a picture. Then Mamita said, “Everyone has a work to do”, we looked at each other surprisingly. My grandmother told to my uncles that they harvest some vegetables, so my aunts can make the dinner. My cousins, my siblings and I asked her, “Mamita what are we going to do?” she replied,” My loves, you will have the most important and enjoyable job ever” we ask, “What, what Mamita.” Mamita told us that we had to decorate the house and the Christmas tree. She brought us four big white containers with decoration. Outside the house, it had a big tree that we decorated with multicolor lights, silver balls, bells, cherries, snow men, stars, and sleigh. My cousin Pablo took a ladder to get to the top of the tree, and he put a beautiful white angel. Inside of the house, we decorated and set with white lights, Santa Claus, colorful flowers, and our Christmas boot by chimney.

On December 24th, 1991, my cousins and I woke up because we went to pick some apples, greens bananas, and peaches. When my cousins and I went back, my grandmother said,” I want you all that go to the beach today”, my father answered,” no, mother we have to prepared all to celebrated Christmas.” Mamita said,” Do not worry, I will

All can relate to that one special time of the year, Christmas, when whole families unite and spend hours endlessly sharing stories, making memories, and of course, opening presents! What happens though, when all of the sentimental value of Christmas is replaced solely with physical value, the gifts? What would Christmas be like then? Richard Rodriguez takes the readers through one of his annual Christmases and brings to light, through his thoughts, the disconnect that exists between himself, his siblings, and his parents. Rodriguez’ chronological presentation of events with flashbacks, short, abrupt syntax, light-hearted attention to detail and concerned tone contribute to suggest his worried attitude toward his family.…

Christmas is a holiday celebrated around the world. Children wait all night the evening before for santa to place their gifts beneath the tree. Excitement rages from them the morning of December twenty-fifth; pretty wrapping paper and shiny bows glisten under the christmas tree lights while the bulbs upon it sparkle so elegantly. However, Christmas is not about all these aspects that it is displayed as. Christmas has more meaning than pretty gifts and how many gifts each child has under the tree. This holiday is above the amount of money one kid gets while the next gets so little. Though some see Christmas as a materialistic holiday, it has far more depth than so little meaning. The Holiday of Christmas contrasts greatly with celebrations…

As we drive towards the cabins, the grey road twists and curves through the hills. Trees loom above and surround us, with their warm toned leaves falling and blanketing the ground beneath them. The lake nearby reflects shimmers of light through the gaps in the tree line that hit my face as I gaze out the window. As we near the cabins, their dark green roofs come into view, with their auburn, wooden siding almost blending into the woods around them. Family members in warm sweaters stand outside, some unloading their cars, while others stand in groups and catch up with the recent events in one another’s lives. We are greeted with warm arms and helping hands as we unpack our car and begin to settle in our home for the week. Our family Christmas reunion has always started this…

Sadly, we do not have the luxury of visiting our relatives every year but, we have gone twice during Christmas and New Year, and Christmas was celebrated quite differently. During these trips I learned a lot about my heritage and the importance of tradition. You don’t hear the words Santa Claus, and children don’t receive presents on Christmas Day. Instead, we celebrate Dia de los Reyes, or Three Kings’ Day which is celebrated on January 6th .This special holiday commemorates the three wise men who traveled a distance to bring gifts for the infant baby Jesus. Aside from this holiday, we also participated in las posadas, it is a reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s arrival in Bethlehem, performed just before Christmas. Young adults perform these reenactments as they ride on donkey in the rancho, searching for hospitality. Once they are turned away three times, the entire community gathers together at the local church for warm bowls of pozole and mugs of chocolate (Mexican hot chocolate). This reenactment is crucial to our tradition as it is performed several times leading up to Christmas. During my stay in Mexico and participating in all these holidays I learned that there is much more to life than receiving the most gifts during the holidays. My stay there taught me to be humble and to value the important…

Every year I have a great Christmas spending valuable time with family and friends. This past Christmas was the best I’ve ever had. I received the best unexpected gift ever! It all started when everyone in my family came to my house early Christmas morning for breakfast. After breakfast we started passing out gifts. First, we would usually go in a huge circle and everyone would open one gift at a time. This time was different and very odd to me. My family would let everyone open a gift and would skip me. At first, I wondered why I didn’t get my turn yet, but then, I thought to myself that something was up. After a while, my family let me open some of my gifts so that I wouldn’t suspect anything. Next, my whole family huddled up whispering to each other. I then knew that something wasn’t right which made me get a little angry. After my family’s little huddle, they handed me a card. As I read the card, I come across the words,” You will be going on a 7 day cruise to Mexico!” I stood up screaming to the top of my lungs with enjoyment. I cried happy tears because I never expected to go on a cruise especially without my parents. All of my family members rushed to me and gave me a big hug. My grandmother and I cried together in joy and sadness because she was happy for me but at the same time, she didn’t want to see her oldest grandchild leave the country without her being there with me. Over all, my family gave me some advice on what to do and what not to do while I’m on the cruise. I had a great time on the cruise and got to learn about a different culture from mines. It was a unforgettable experience and I would never forget the best Christmas…
