I booked THAHN off of a taped audition, and I went out to shoot it in Atlanta. Tyler Perry has such a unique filming style, shooting like seventy pages a day in blocks by location. For example, we're at a crime scene on one day of shooting, so we get to shoot all the parts from six episodes that take place around that location. I play a police officer and I really can't say much more. After working with Tyler Perry and watching this filming style of his, it makes sense how he's able to produce so much incredible content every year. If you're basically shooting a feature film every single day, you can certainly turn out that volume of storytelling.…

Tyler Perry was born in New Orleans in the year 1969. This individual underwent some very difficult situations in his childhood. Born into a family of six members, out of the four children, Perry seemed to be the main focus of the children’s abusive alcoholic father. Due to this harsh situation, Perry tried to commit suicide in order to find relief from the difficult life that he had been given. After failing at his attempt of ending his life, Perry (during adolescence) altered his first name from that of his abusive father to Tyler. While he was changing things around in his life, the young Perry did not finish high school either. Some have even carved niches in the film industry thanks to the advantage they take of the freedom allotted to them by the 1968 code. Writer and director Judd Apatow is a prime example of one of these filmmakers. Apatow’s trademark as a director includes the excessive use of profanity, vulgar jokes, and marijuana use. While these elements may be prominent in the age group that gets the most enjoyment out of Apatow’s films, the frequency with which they are portrayed in the films can feel forced; they are added to force emotion out of the audience; they aren’t necessary. The film would still be understood, if not be better, without…

I have chosen Robert De Niro as the focus of this paper. De Niro is a multi Academy Award winning actor whose career spans more than three decades. Born in New York City in 1943 to two artist parents, he caught the “acting bug” as a young man. He won critical success for his first film, Bang the Drum Slowly (1973). However, it was 1976’s Taxi Driver that imprinted his range as an actor into many audience members’ minds. De Niro’s character, Travis Bickle, is A Vietnam vet, apparently suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This theme of mental illness would be played out in two of De Niro’s subsequent films: The Deer Hunter and Awakenings.…

In contrast to his father, his mother took him to church each week, where he sensed a certain refuge and contentment. "Home movies are about innocence--our lost fuzzy, glowing personal pasts, all horseplay, and funny hats and the promise of youth" (Cooper, 23). Andrew Jarecki's remarkable film, Capturing the Friedmans captured just what is clearly a case study of extreme family dysfunction through such home videos. At first Andrew Jarecki just wanted to do a nice little documentary about clowns. He decided to try film making and thought he would cut his teeth on something easy like birthday party clowns. He had met David Friedman a top childrens birthday party clown from Manhattan, New York. Much to his surprise David Friedman had a much more interesting story to tell. David's father Arnold, and younger brother Jesse were both convicted of sex crimes against children who attended computer classes in their basement. After watching this spellbinding documentary by Jarecki, I was intrigued by the many cinematic and narrative techniques used in the film to effectively tell the tragic story of one family. This film not only made its audience sympathize with each member of the family at one point or another during the the course of the film, but it also made us change our viewpoint several times as well. Capturing the Friedmans had its very own voice, imagery, and film editing.…
