* MEDIA LITERACY is the ability to understand and make productive use of the media. It is also educated, cultivated, and cultured. Media Literacy also have 4 principles and these are: * Media constructs reality. * Media use identifiable techniques. * Media are business with commercial interests. * Media present ideologies and value messages.
MEDIA CONSTRUCTS REALITY. * In this principle, it tells us that media manipulates humanity. Our understanding of reality and what the world is are based from what we see in the media. The media is the one who constructs reality instead of ourselves and we just look forward what it tells us. This kind of principle is present in the newspapers which belonged to the Broadcast media. In the newspaper, we know the situations happening in our daily living. In other words, our perception of reality is shaped by the media we use to communicate with one another.
MEDIA USE IDENTIFIABLE TECHNIQUES. * Here, it tells that the media catches attention in order to sell their products by using animations, colourful backgrounds, etc. It uses creative techniques to catch the attention of the audience and for them to have a higher sell in their products. For example is the juice advertisements present in the magazines. They use colourful background to set a good and lively theme for it gives extra attention to their products. They also include editing the product by adding other sorts of stuffs like the scale, relative position, the slogans, etc.
MEDIA ARE BUSINESS WITH COMMERCIAL INTERESTS. * In my own understanding, this principle tells us that the media is profit oriented. Advertisements under this principle, uses famous people for their product to be sold. They use famous people because it will make the audiences want to buy that product because the people that they idolizes uses and promote that certain product.
MEDIA PRESENT IDEOLOGIES AND VALUE MESSAGES. * Lastly, in this principle, it tells us that media should have good messages. In print media, half of it has no morals or good messages we can get. It simply tells us here, that every form of media should have its significance or values. In the other hand, half of the print media have good purposes like the posters they make for preserving the environment, etc.
