Mcveigh Bombing Case Study
“According to sources and documents, the pieces of evidence include: a pair of earplugs, recovered by authorities after McVeigh was arrested about 80 minutes after the bombing. The prosecution hopes to show at the trial that the plugs tested positive for NG, or nitroglycerine, which is used in high explosives and the production of dynamite, and EGDN, or ethylene glycol dinitrate, also used in dynamite. In addition, they plan to provide testimony that the residue traces found on the plugs are "consistent with" PETN, or pentaerythritol tetranitrate, a high-explosive compound that frequently has been found in bombings. McVeigh's jeans. The left pocket reportedly gave a positive "identification" for NG and a finding "consistent with" PETN. The right pocket tested positive for both NG and PETN. McVeigh's T-shirt with blue sleeves. Steven Burmeister, a chief analyst in the lab's chemistry and toxicology units, who is expected to be a key expert witness for the government, confirmed that PETN was identified on the shirt, according to the documents” (Serrano, 1997.) More evidence included: a second T-shirt worn that day by McVeigh was identified by Burmeister with carrying traces of PETN, McVeigh's knife and the knife's sheath with the knife blade gave a test …show more content…
Those numbers demonstrate, she said, that there was no widespread contamination of evidence at the lab--as McVeigh's lead defense attorney, Stephen Jones, has alleged” (Serrano, 1997.) Prosecution plan to use the bomb residue discovered inside pieces of the back of the truck with McVeigh’s name on it, prove him to be the attacker (Serrano, 1997.)

On April 15, 1995 Timothy McVeigh rented a Ryder truck in Herington, Kansas under the alias Robert D. Kling. On April 16, he drove to Oklahoma City with fellow conspirator Terry Nichols where he parked a getaway vehicle several blocks away from the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. After removing the license plate from the car, the two men returned to Kansas. On April 17 and 18, the men moved 108 fifty-pound bags of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, three fifty-five gallon drums of liquid nitromethane, several crates of explosive Tovex sausage, seventeen bags of ANFO, and spools of shock tube and cannon fuse. The two then drove to Geary Lake where they mixed the chemicals together using plastic buckets and a bathroom scale. Once it was completed, McVeigh added a dual-fuse ignition system which he could access through the truck's front cab. After finishing the configuration of the truck-bomb, the two men separated, Nichols returning to Herington and McVeigh driving the truck to Oklahoma City.…

On April 15, 2013 I remember hearing from Mr. Ham that the Boston marathon had been bombed at the finish line. The only knowledge I had of this incident before I read about it— was that it was a terrorist attack. After reading this article explaining about the convictions of the two terrorists Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, there isn’t any sort of bias that I can see going on in this topic. Although the author doesn’t have her own argument about the situation, she talks about the dispute between the terrorists and the prosecutors and the jury. The prosecutors and the jury came to the conclusion that Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, were found guilty.…

One of the worst domestic terrorist attacks in United States history was the Oklahoma City bombing. The attack occurred on April 19, 1995 and the two assailants were Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. The bombing killed 168 people and wounded 680 others, the blast from the bomb destroyed 324 buildings, causing an estimated $652 million dollars’ worth of damage, but the main building of the attack was the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The two attackers were captured within an hour and half after the attack for driving without a license plate and were arrested for being in possession of illegal weapons. Forensic evidence was able to swiftly and easily link these two to the bombing. McVeigh who was Gulf War veteran, detonated the truck and parked it in front of the building. Nichols, the accomplice had assisted in bomb preparation. McVeigh’s hatred for the government was fueled by the deadly fire that…

At 9:03 a.m. a massive bomb resting inside a rented Ryder truck destroyed half of the nine story federal building in downtown Oklahoma City. Within moments, the surrounding area looked like a complete war zone. The smoke in the air so thick it was impossible to breathe or see. A third of the building had been reduced to rubble, with many floors flattened like pancakes. Dozens of cars exploded and were incinerated. Also more than 300 nearby buildings were damaged or destroyed. It also claimed the innocent lives of 169 men, women, and children, while causing critical injuries to hundreds more. The bomb was made up of a deadly and potent cocktail of two and a half tons of ammonium nitrate , 4800 pounds of a common farm fertilizer, and fuel oil then was packed inside the rented truck. The most terrifying thing about the making of this bomb was that its ingredients were cheap and very accessible to the public. Most gardening stores sell 50 pound bags of ammonium nitrate for $10. The substantial destruction from the bomb was luck more than anything. Former FBI bomb expert Denny Kline commented that "he made the biggest bomb he had accessible to him, placed the device outside, and hoped for the best, and in fact, it was the worst scenario" (Camp, 1995). It blew off the front end of the building, blowing up ceilings and collapsing floors, and burying victims under an immense amount of concrete and steel (Camp, 1995)…

The main reason the 9/11 attack was so gruesome was the fact that the organization did not need weapons of mass destruction to accomplish it goal. The organized group of the Taliban or Al Qaeda, as known by some, was able to commandeer two 747 planes and launch an attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. This was a strategic threat that was well plan and the funding of it leader Osama bin Laden. These types of suicide missions that were televised to the nation through the media signified the dawn of a new kind of threat and that a new kind of organization or rational think had to be formed.
