McDonaldlization
McDonaldlization is a theory applied to understanding services in the workplace and society. Ritzer defines McDonaldlization as “the process by which the principle of the fast food restaurants are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of the world” Efficiency, predictability, calculability and control are the driving forces behind our society. Every aspect of society today is affected by McDonaldlization.
Weber’s theory of McDonaldlization is that human action can be broken down into control, calculation and measurement. Ritzer’s theory is similar but expands buy efficiency, predictability, calculability, and control. Efficiency “choosing the optimum means to a given end”.
