Maxine's background information on her life is very interesting. Maxine Hong Kingston was born on October 27,1940 in Stockton, California. She has been married to Earll Kingston since 1962 and has one son. She earned her bachelors degree in 1962 from the university of California, Berkley. Some of Maxine's accomplishments were many award and recognition from other upcoming authors. Maxine's first book, The Woman Warrior, was published in 1976, when she was 35 the book was a huge success and won the National Books Critic Circle Award. In The a Fifth Book Of Peace (2003) it tells the story of how her Californian home was burned down and how some of her unpublished novels went along with it. Maxine's parents were Chinese immigrants. She is currently 75 years old and her birth sign is a scorpio. Very soon after she moved to Hawaii in the late 1960s she started her writing career.
