I would like to write about the significance of the, "…double mattress on a brown wooden platform," (McCracken 27) or the marital bed of Sally and Amos from "Property." When I think about beds, I associate them with marriage and Stony's description of the bed as a double mattress instead of simply a mattress or bed made the association apparent to me. What caught me off guard was immediately after painting the picture of a bed for two he compared it to a horrifying scene, "It looked like the sort of thing you'd store a kidnapped teenage girl underneath." (McCracken 27) Stony's association of something that represents love, rest, and union with torture, camouflage, and vulnerability made it apparent that he no longer had the things the bed represented.…

Unfortunately, mold on your memory foam mattress is a sign that it's time to throw it away. Although you can remove surface mold with a vacuum cleaner, household cleaners and a bit of time in the sun, there is no way to remove mold from deeper parts of the mattress. Instead, you'll need to get a new mattress and take steps to prevent mold from growing again.…

Restorative nap is the evidence-based solution to reduce fatigue among night workers. Aside from being unsafe for the patients, repeated studies have shown that fatigue from constantly working at night leads to nurses’ work inefficiency, dissatisfaction, and serious illnesses. Studies have also suggested ways to implement the practice of nap breaks and urged leaders to uphold it. Additional studies need to explore hospitals known allowing openly restorative naps to nurses with positive results. Nevertheless, in order for the hospital to exist as the place for healing and safety, organizational leaders should start looking into their own employees’ welfare. Explicitly, to preserve patients and nurses, organizational leaders should take…

When the Teddy bear was off the baby hand, she would grab her small baby blanket to cover her up, but it didn’t completely cover her and she would roll over. I was wondering why the baby did that because I thought it still too young for a baby at this age to use the blanket. When my five minutes were over, I went over to ask the mother about it and she told me her baby liked to roll over a lot and it’s just her thing of fun. She didn’t have any problem with her baby using the blanket, but some parents did worry about that because their child would get stuck when rolling. While the baby played with her mother, she would open her mouth wide and said “ahh.” Even though there was no food given to her, but since her mother did that she copied her.…

Studying my sleep habits this week has been a an eye opener. I learned so much about my body in the last seven days. I learned that I responded better to waking up to an alarm, then someone coming in my room to wake me up. On an average, I got about seven hours of sleep a day. I was able to sleep more on days I did not have to workout for football. A trend I noticed is that I felt better in the morning, if I went to bed before 11:00 pm. Another trend I learned is I fall asleep faster when I took my socks off. I wasn't able to go to sleep due to the lack of comfort of the socks on my feet . I slept a lot better when I turned off the lights and played music. I didn't sleep well with a lot of clothes on. I found myself waking…

Although taboo in Western culture, co-sleeping is making a comeback. After the retraction of previous statements against co-sleeping, Dr. Richard Ferber, child sleep guru, has now sided with a family’s decision to share a bed with their infants. Although the American Society of Pediatrics warns that sleeping with your infant can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, the exact cause of SIDS is still unknown. The emotional benefits of sharing a bed with your baby can be enormous and some would argue that engaging in co-sleeping strengthens the bond between parent and child.…

First, breast milk is widely acknowledged as the most complete form of nutrition for infants, with a variety of benefits for infant health, growth, immunity, and development. This unique nutritional source cannot adequately be replaced by any other food, including infant formula. Therefore, a benefit of co-sleeping is the advantage to and promotion of breastfeeding. The proximity to and sensory contact with the mother during sleep facilitates prompt responses to signs of the infant’s readiness to breastfeed and provides psychological comfort and reassurance to the dependent infant as well as the parents (ABM). Breastfeeding has been found to be the most prominent reason for co-sleeping, which not only supports the ease and convenience of nighttime breastfeeding, but it also may lessen maternal pain or discomfort following birth (Ball, 2002). The majority of women find it more comfortable to breastfeed while lying on…

    Bed Wetting

Like chalk and cheese, boys and girls are different in so many ways and bedwetting is no different. Nocturnal bedwetting affects twice as many boys as girls. Experts are not exactly sure why but there have been medical studies done which suggest that girls tend to develop bladder control before boys. Dr. Michael Ritchey, a Pediatric urologist, agrees and says this could be attributed to the fact that the pressure to urinate is higher in boys, affecting their ability to hold urine. In most cases bedwetting is caused by a slower than normal development of the child’s bladder control.…
