Running Head: Reflection Paper

Math has been around for quiet a long time. We all see math in a different way some can grasp it and some cannot. Learning math concept is very frustrating some will master it and some want. I have struggle with math myself. In fact, every time the word math was said throughout my school years and I hated it. Now throughout this course, I realize that I need a great amount of math skills before I can even consider teaching math skills. Math is a difficult concept to teach. So how can I teach math, if I do not understand it myself? This is a question I must ask myself and hopefully one day not questions my math skills.

In math 214 there were endless amount of math concepts learned throughout this course. Probability and Data Analysis apply basic concept of probability. And use appropriate statistical method to analyze data. Billstein, Libeskind, and Lott (2007) we also were introduce to Geometry which we analyze the characteristics and properties of two – and three –dimensional geometric shapes. We also argue mathematics geometric relationships as well as visualize. Billstein, Libeskind, and Lott. (2007) another math concept that was discussed during class was application of Measurement which applies appropriate techniques, tool, as well as formulas to determine measurement. As we went on through the course this were some of the things that were farther discussed in this course 3-d shape and what was associated with the shapes. perimeter, volume, surface area, and number of vertices, as well as faces, and edges. To sum this all up, this were a very interesting class I always heard that geometry was hard. But, I really learned a whole lot from this class as well as how to teach it all to my student’s present and future classes as educator.

Many people engage in community service project because they are either forced as a punishment or sentence. Others engage in community service out of Spirit of unselfishness, or a desire to connect with their communities by helping out. For me, it brings a sense of completeness. During the past few semester my team members and I have engage in different projects, Collecting food, clothes and donating to the homeless. In a way I’ve experience working the different organizations and helping the community. But with this particular project, it meant much more then collecting for the disadvantaged, It was about lending a hand and your heart to a community in need.. During my involvement in this fieldwork project I got the opportunity to offer my unconditional assistance for one day in a non-profit making community based project. The name of the project was Liberty City Construction, which is being undertaken by a Christian ministry organization whose aim is to improve the livelihood of low-income families through building affordable and decent houses at a 0% interest rate. The organization founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda fuller has built and rehabilitated more then 100,000 families in need, becoming the world leader in addressing the issues if poverty housing. They work in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all social, economic, and ethic group to expand communities with people in need by building an renovating houses so that everyone can experience God’s love and can live and grow in to all the God intends. For that particular day, three of my group members and I…

We also covered using visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling to solve problems. Week two we also did an individual assignment to help us understand geometry. Week three we covered the application of geometry using chapters 10 and 11. We analyze geometric definitions and relationships including congruency, triangle properties and triangle inequalities. Circles and arcs are another concept studied as well as proportions between parallel lines and congruent segments. This helped me to study similarity and proportions between polygons and triangle. At the end of week three I was able to specify locations using coordinate geometry, describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry and use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations. In week four we covered Identify the relevant attributes of objects when solving problems as well as applying appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurements. In week five we synthesize the mathematics concepts addressed in this course. As a team we worked on a power point dealing with a three dimensional shape and we discussed the surface, faces, sides, volume as well as…

Chapter 10 is entitled Conflict Management in Groups. This is a very essential chapter for all members of a group to read and understand. Fortunately, my group members and I have not had a problem with getting along. It just so happened that four members of my group already know each other from another class they are in together. So, they already got along and had some connection with one another. I think we all have good personalities and we enjoy working with each other. The characteristics of our group allow us to be a successful group. The semester is coming to an end, and we have worked hard together to perform all tasks and accomplish all our goals. Getting to the stage where we are now involved a lot of comprimising and negotiating. So, the two terms I would like to concentrate on from Chapter 10 is compromise…

The next major concept that was covered was Whole Numbers and Their Operations. This concept includes lessons that introduced whole numbers, basic operations of whole numbers, properties of addition and subtraction, algorithms for whole number operations, and mental mathematics and estimation. This chapter is fundamental to learning mathematics because this is the foundation needed to expound upon as you progress to higher levels of mathematics. In order to advance in mathematics, one must understand numbers, and the different ways of representing numbers.…

Music, art/design, and even athletics are built on mathematics. A pianist can benefit from patterns and sequences when composing much the same way that a golfer can benefit from math-based physics, trigonometry, and even statistics when driving. No matter which avenue a student pursues, math will somehow be present. It is not only the responsibility of a nurse, an engineer, or a physicist to know mathematics. Rather, it is in each student’s best interest that they apply, or at least consider, mathematics in all areas of…

There are a lot of books that have been written over what the different spiritual gifts are and how they are supposed to be used. There are quite a few verses in the New Testament that covers the spiritual gifts and how we are to use them. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 we are told, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the sane God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same spirit.” The Bible…

Math is a very important subject to learn. I believe that math is a subject in which you learn about properties and relationships of things using numbers and sometimes symbols. You learn about things from shapes and measurements to patterns and relationships. Math is usually a difficult subject with lots of rules that you take during most or your entire educational career. Math can be boring sometimes, but it can be fun as well sometimes like when we work in groups or do hands on experiments. In IMP we usually work in groups. At our tables we check over our homework answers with one another to see if it is correct. After this we discuss the answers…

The goals of mathematics education are to value mathematics, to reason mathematically, to solve problems, to communicate mathematics, and to develop confidence. Unfortunately, instead of gaining self-confidence, many students reap low self-esteem and suffer from math anxiety when studying and learning mathematics. That is one of the major problems encountered by the students in mathematics.…
