153. Explain the negative exponent rule and give an example.
The main rule for a negative exponent is to always first make it into a positive before you start simplifying. For example y^-4+7=x
The first thing you would do is write it as this
1/y^4+7=x
Once this is completed you can then simplify.

You can tell if an exponential expression is simplified when it brought down to the lowest possible simplification. For example
6y^3+y^3=x
These are like terms and can be added making it 7y^3=x
Now if we were multiplying we would add the exponents for example 6y^3*y^3=x
This would be written as 6y^6=x
155. How do you know if a number is written in scientific notation? You know that a number is written in scientific notation when there is a decimal number with one digit to the left of the decimal. For example let us take the number 53,000,000. In scientific notation it would be written as 5.3*10^7
156. Explain how to convert from scientific to decimal notation and give an example. This is the opposite of number written in scientific notation. If you have 5.3*10^7 it would be converted to 53,000,000

This is the same question number 155. You convert a number such as 53,000,000 by taking out the zeros and putting a dot between the 5 and 3. It ends up looking like 5.3*10^7

Numbers can get really large and hard to manage. For example 53000000*69000000 would end up as a huge number to be written out. Now if you write it as 5.3*10^7*6.9*10^7 makes it much simpler of a problem which the answer would be 3.657*10^14
