The simple set, created by in-house designer Jeremy Imboden, was created completely out of recycled materials that were previously used in other productions. The four panels that hung as a back drop was made out of wood paneling and cardboard. There were several movable pieces; tables, chairs, coffee bar, and tombstones due to the cast potentially performing the show at an area conference. The minimal set design was truly made up by the lighting design of Travis Denton. The combinations of the colored gels and strategically placed spotlights really set the mood of each scene.…
The acting in this play was great. The actor I was looking most forward to was Brooke Shields. Honestly don’t think that she was that great. It could have just been the character of Morticia, but after it was all over I felt like she stood out the least. To be fare it could have just been that she was having a bad night though because when she was handing out autographs after the play she apologized for not doing well. The other star, Roger Rees, was pretty good. He definitely was not my favorite part of the show, but he did a good job playing Gomez. He was somewhat dry, but he had enough to keep him memorable. Adam Riegler was the young boy who played Pugsley. He did an outstanding job and unfortunately wasn’t a huge part of the show. I would have liked it if they had involved him in a few more scenes. The best part of the show was definitely Rachel Potter in the role of Wednesday. She blew everyone else out of the water in terms of her acting and singing. She was the true star of the show in my opinion. The way she acted really made the audience want things to work for her and the character Lucas. The actors Heide Blickenstaff and Adam Grupper did a good job in the role of Lucas’ parents. I feel that they did there job in being good character foils to Gomez and Morticia. Jesse Swenson was another actor that I thought did great. He played Wednesdays love interest Lucas. He did a fantastic job and was almost as good as Rachel Potter. Another role which I was disappointed in was Brad Oscar…
Though when I saw the play for the first time, I realized that the set that I saw was only a small part of the entire set. In addition to the the pox house that was set up with an amazing amount of detail with all of the little trinkets on the shelves, the lights and sound effects also added to the level of greatness. The colors of the lights would accurately match the mood of a scene or set the tone. This is essentially what lights are supposed to do in a play, but it is sometimes overlooked in small school productions. With regards to the sound effects, I was a bit taken aback by the real life aspect of it.…
A Streetcar named Desire kept me intrigued the whole time up until the last few minutes. I feel like I was more intrigued in this play because the pace of it was so fast and non-stop. The characters did a fantastic job of making the play believable. What stuck out to me the most and made me feel as if I was in the play was the surplus of characters. Something else that stuck out to me and made me believe the play was Stanley. He expressed his violence in a very believable manner without actually hurting Stella which made the play seem like real life. Blanch and Stella did a great job of making the play believable by conveying their emotions which can be a result of their acting skills and their voice. A Streetcar Named Desire made me feel like I was on the stage watching people interact in their everyday…
Of the many live performances I have been able to see, by far my favorite is Wicked. I have always been drawn to plays that are fantasy-based versus those that focus on realism. Wicked is a complete fun-ride of fantasy from beginning to end. From it's variety of outrageous characters to it's musical score, each aspect of drama is clear and defined in this play. Theme, music, and spectacle will be the focus in this essay, but that is not to say each aspect does not have a role in the show. Wicked presents the aspects of drama in a way that an audience remembers.…
I really enjoyed how minimalist the set was for this show because while the overall setting of the South was important, the interaction of the characters was made the focal point of the show. It was a good choice because it reinforced the theme of getting to know someone else’s side of the story that the play showcased. It also help aid the fact that the play was told in a flashback, and that all the events had already occurred. It was a good style choice for this…
The theater participants did a phenomenal job on this production. The set pieces were very much well used throughout the production. The props and set pieces also helped the audience get a better feeling and understanding of the setting of that in particular scene. The stage crew also did a good job at clearing the stage or setting the stage up in-between scene changes.…
The biggest difference between the movie and the play is that in the end, Mrs. Darling asks Peter to live with them, but he refuses. He does not want to leave his life as a boy forever. In the movie version, Wendy offers it but they decline. To me, because Mrs. Darling asked in the original, it showed more just how much Peter did not want to grow up. Although, he brought Wendy to Neverland because he wanted a mother when an actual mother asks for him to stay he declines it. This proves that he likes the way he lives, and does not plan on giving it up for a very long…
The actors make sure that the audience was aware of what was going on in terms of the exposition of the play when they came out singing to the audience about what the play was about in the time in which life was tender and warm, and letting the audience know the transitions of scenes. The actors did an excellent job in their roles, playing each scene with creativity the captures me as an audience. I liked all the characters, but my two favorites were Mortimer played by Darren McElroy and his partner Henry played by Terry Vandivort. Their scene was just breathtaking and full of laughter. From the moment they curled into the stage from the big box that was like an entrance, the two characters released the tension that I had about the play of being another vision of tragedy love “Romeo and Juliet.” My favorite part of the play was the fight scene when El Gallo, Henry, and Mortimer pretended to abduct Luisa under the moonlight and Matt fought them off; it was interesting to me because the scene was too dramatic in the sense that the three abductors die funnily reminding me of the Peter and Mr. Chicken from “The Family Guy”. These scenes in the play showed a very comedic and my opinion of the play, making me stay and complete the play and release my boredness of the…
The directing was good so the actors were seen from every position in the theater. The choice of actors was good so we could feel they were their characters. The blocking was done well so the actors would move like a person like that would move.…
“This is a great show!” displays a sign outside of The New Amsterdam Theatre in Times Square; this is an understatement. For my Independent Theatre Talks Journal I saw the musical Mary Poppins on November 28, 2012 at 7 p.m. This musical, based off the Disney movie Mary Poppins, is directed by Richard Eyre and co-directed by Matthew Bourne; who also acted as co-choreographer with Stephen Mear. Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family who live in a big house in London on Cherry Lane. The children, Jane and Michael, are in need of a new nanny and when young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she is the answer to their prayers. Mary Poppins takes the children on several magical adventures, but the children…
As for the music and the acting, I must admit I was massively impressed. I had never watched an opera before, but I had seen lots of plays. Nevertheless, this has been my favourite so far. The music was outstanding. Every time one of the cast members started to sing, I felt out of this world. They…
Overall, I mainly enjoy this play because it reminds of my youth and reminds me of my father. He loves Mary Poppins and when he got the chance to take me to see the play, it was an experience for the both of us. This play is great for all ages, I grew up with it and I would go see it again tomorrow if I could.…
The play is very beautiful and I love the entire show the parts when everyone starts dancing and singing and playing their individual roles and how they dress for their part. The play was written by Walt Disney World and created by their studio and it was loaded on You Tube by jcmark42 on July 12, 2009. The artwork was beautiful and vitalizing and made the stage look very glamorous and unique. The location was in Pennsylvania, the genre was Broadway Production live, and the time period of the play was July 12, 2009. Yes the artwork was an example of the major characteristics. I expected that the play was going to be worth me watching and I would enjoy it. My expectation’s was how the play came out and performed just like I thought it would. My reaction to Beauty & the Beast musical was joyous, happiness, fulfilling and I will be watching it again. I loved the Broadway musical that I choose. The reason why I love the Broadway musical Beauty & the Beast is that I love how they sing and dance and how the forest look and the castle is very beautiful to me that’s why I love that play. I love watching plays and Beauty & the Beast is my favorite and You tube made it possible for me to…
The overall quality of the play was good however I believe they missed an opportunity to make this play amazing. The main reason it was not taken well was because of the drawn out scenes that bored us.…
