The prosecutor stated that Officer Blades was "corrupt," when District Judge Tom Gilbert then handed down a split 70-year sentence. The sentencing requires Mr. Blades to serve a 35 year prison term then upon release will be on probation for 35-years prison. Judge Gilbert explained that the law requires Blades to serve "85 percent" of the time incarceration which will be almost 30 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.

The first was that Officer Blades was conducting racial profiling targeting Hispanics because of the high probability of them being undocumented immigration status. This type of action not only are an unethical practice as well as a violation of criminal laws while as a police officer conducting duties The traffic stops where conducted not because of probable cause but for the fact he knew that they would be afraid to file a report on his conduct.
