Imagine yourself, coming home from a stressful day at school. All you want to do is relax and play some online games. Then as soon as you open up a website you are bombarded with tons of ads for different products. This is what happens to children every day as soon as they get onto any type of websites. Marketers target children so they can advertise products to them. Of course, these actions can lead to many effects.

Why do marketers target children? One reason is kids have purchasing power. This is because children use ''The nag factor''. This means that there are ads being placed all over the internet. This includes video games, websites, and on smartphones. One example is that if a person opens a website like an online game then every few minutes they are presented with a new ad that tries to convince the person that they need the product. Major corporations have recently begun using gaming [web] sites to create an image and “brand loyalty” early on in today’s youth as young as four years of age. Although The United States is an industrialized nation it is one of the few that entire campaigns are designed to target children. These same corporations are working with major television networks advertising products that pertain to program that is being viewed; with the intent to get them as a present consumer but also well into the future. In addition to television ads one company has initiated a program for advertisers to distribute coupons and promotional materials to a network with more than two thousand day care centers and about two million preschool kids. The guidelines and principles outlined in the article talk about every aspect of marketing, from disclosure and disclaimers, safety, and newly added, the internet. I think the CARU honestly has the best interests of children, however there is no way of protecting children from any adult advertising if they happen to be watching a program or a channel not usually watched by others their age.
