SYNOPSIS
Revenue management is one of the essential core areas in sustainable hospitality business. Students learn about the different aspects of revenue management concepts and the application of revenue management skills to result-oriented strategies in the hospitality industry.

OBJECTIVES
This course has been designed to achieve the following objectives in hospitality business: • To understand the basic principles of revenue management. • To introduce the application of revenue management tools effectively. • To equip students with the ability to identify and exploit opportunities for revenue optimization.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon the completion of this module, the student should be able to: • demonstrate an understanding the various aspects of revenue management; • identify the various revenue management tools to be applied in hospitality business decisions; • analyse and evaluate opportunities and alternatives in revenue management decisions; and, • demonstrate an awareness of the legal and ethical issues in hospitality revenue management.

    Revenue management is a vehicle to help hotels to become aware of the rooms they sell, the rates at which they sell, and the pace at which they sell. It is a way hotels can become pro-active in the selling process, rather than simply posting rates and waiting for them to be sold.     Revenue management is quiet new department in hotels. The main goal of this department is to divide inventory and set the right price for the right room at the right time. It is all about increasing sales and revenue, and for some people everything related to the cash flow is unethical. But what is the right price? For what target it is working? Is it ethical or no? This questions would be discussed in the following paper. But first of all lets define so what is ethics and how it is perceived by three parties: supplier/hotel, seller/intermediaries and of course consumers. It is very hard to define because all people perceive it differently and their opinion about the ethic is shaky (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks & Mayer, 2010). Ethics is the moral standard of right and wrong conduct towards others (Hayes & Miller, 2011).
