CASE STUDY: Accenture

1. How did Accenture transfer the brand equity from its original name, Andersen Consulting, to the new company name?

The way that Accenture transferred brand equity from its original name to the new company name was by specially branding the new one, and looking at a new name as a fresh start, re-introducing itself to its customers, and the world. With a new name, this allows them to start fresh without the backdrop of a history, and especially since the name was created by one of its employee’s, they took a big risk in going with a ‘made-up’ name, which after extensive research and implementing important decisions, seems to have paid off very well for the company, both literally and figuratively. What they did was effectively transfer their new idea to customers, all the same time implanting their marketing strategy. An example of this was while advertising in the newspaper, and an anticipated ‘new’ beginning at the start of the following year with a clipping on the bottom corner of their pages. Accenture used advertisement wisely as well as carefully identified the four characteristics that have an affect the marketing service. The divorce from Anderson ended up being a good thing for Accenture.

2. Evaluate the Accenture brand name using the six criteria detailed in the chapter.
There are six different criteria that are detailed in this chapter that can be used to evaluate the Accenture brand. The first one says that it should suggest something about the product’s benefits and qualities. For this particular example, Accenture is clear on that. The word is a combination of accent and future. They wanted to re-invent themselves, market a new name, while keeping the companies values for what they really were, and what separated themselves from their parent company. Having an accented future, or perhaps having an accent and a future easily

In 1989, due to the market’s consultation needs, the firm decided to split its business in two different entities. Andersen Consulting for market consultation and Arthur Andersen for auditing. Andersen Consulting experienced a strong growth since its starts up as a division of the group Arthur Andersen. In December 1997, this last division decided to began a process of arbitration. Finally, this is how the consulting division got its independence in a $175 million rebranded campaign by paying $1 billion to Andersen. The new company was renamed Accenture on January 01, 2001.…

I think Accent’s most important strength is that it seems like an amazing place to work based on a number of variables which include: the vast variety of Accent locations and brands. This offers a unique opportunity of advancement within a brand or across brands, relocation and the knowledge base of multiple brands. An interview with Tim Searcy, CEO of Accent Marketing Services, was published by Call Me’ IQ on September 15th 2011. In the interview Mr. Searcy states, “the way we distinguish ourselves the most is through our Seven “We Wills” – one of which is “We will promote from within.” When we seek employees to join our organization, we see their first role with us as just that – their first role. We want our employees to grow with us. I’m living proof that you can move from the contact center to the board room, and I believe that in every communication I have with our employees, we’re looking at the next generation of leadership, and that they will come from within.” (Bracken, 2011)…

    1) Can you identify examples of decisions about each part of the marketing mix (product, place, promotion, and pricing) that are being made in the cookie program? The Product is Girl Scout cookies as well as the Girl Scouts themselves. Since 1912 Cookie sales have played a major role in supporting the Girl Scouts organization at the council and troop levels. Being able to target certain people can be tricky sometimes specially if you don’t know what you’re doing or what your target is. You have to be able to sell yourself as well as the product and who better to sell Girl Scout cookies then young girls. The Girl Scouts mainly target the middle and upper class families with kids in the same age group as the girls in the Girl Scout organization. Cookie sales have grown into a major money marketing operation, bringing in over $714 million a year. However, cookie sales have declined one percent each year for the past six years. The Girl Scouts have made several changes to the program that they hope will help spark sales and create cost saving opportunities. The Girl Scout troops will be selling cookie boxes for four dollars apiece, up from the $3.50 price mandated in 2006. The Girl Scouts will also be asking certain troops to reduce their cookie lineups to six varieties.…

    Theories of rebranding

The effectiveness of the rebranding undertaken in the various companies cased in this study shall be explored using the Corporate Rebranding Model proposed by Daly and Moloney, (2004). The two popular models known in the corporate rebranding field are the Muzellec and Lambkin’s (2006) model and Daly and Moloney’s (2004) model. Muzellec and Lambkin’s (2006) model developed out of a study of 165 cases of rebranding focuses especially on driving forces and reasons for corporate re-branding, but suggest a model of the re-branding process. In their model, re-branding factors lead to the formulation of re-branding goals which reflect a new identity (internal: portrayed in employee’s culture) and create a new image (external: portrayed in stakeholders’ images). (Muzellec & Lambkin, 2006) This model presents clear aims of the rebranding process, but neglects the end result of rebranding, which is brand equity (Goi & Goi, 2011). However, studies such as consumer-based brand equity studies (e.g. Kim et al., 2003; Prasad & Dev, 2000) have shown a stronger link between brand equity and an organization’s financial performance or market value (Ahonen, 2008) On this note the Muzzellec and Lambkin’s (2006) model cannot be adopted as the framework for this study.…
