Adobe Systems Inc. Mission Statement[1]

Industry Information

The global PC software industry is massive and recent figures show it was $88 billion in 2008, representing 30% of the total packaged-software market, which was $297 billion. [2] Adobe 's share of this for the same period was $1.023 billion, which was an increase of 9% year-on-year. Software sales are projected to grow by 15% in the United States, Europe and Japan collectively in this timeframe.

Company Information

Before founding Adobe Systems, Inc. in 1982, John Warnock and Charles Geschke worked at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in the 1970’s. They created Adobe with the goal of implementing technology that could get text and images on a computer screen to translate beautifully and accurately into print.

They explored the possibilities of graphics and print which lead to the development of the device-independent page description language called Post Script, Adobe Systems Inc.’s first product on the market in 1984. This new and innovative language provided an alternative to the restrictions faced by the print publishing industry at the time.

Adobe PostScript was followed by Adobe’s other graphic technologies at the time, Illustrator, Acrobat and Type Manager. These ground breaking software releases revolutionised the print industry. The company had, by now, been established as a high quality and reliable organisation.

In 1990 Adobe designed and released a new format: the PDF
