Marine Corps Order P1020
Marine Corps Order P1020.34G. This one order clearly explains every uniform regulation the Marine Corps has. It goes into to detail on everything from hair color to boots and utilities. From chevron placement to shaven faces. It not only explains the male uniform regulations, but female uniform regulations as well. In this essay, I will explain go over specifically grooming standards for both male and female marines, why the marine corps has uniform regulations in the first place, and what these uniform regulations mean to me as a lance corporal of marines. Let’s start out with grooming standards. What are they you ask? Well the grooming standards go into specific detail about how marines need to look. Hair has to be neat and closely trimmed. The hair may be clipped at the edges of the side and back and will be evenly graduated all the way around the head, from zero length at the hairline in the lower portion of the head to the upper portion of the head. Hair can not be over three inches in length fully extended on the top portion of the head. Extended hair, not the style of the hair, will determine its proper length. It also states that no male marine No male marine will be required to have his entire hair length shaven to the scalp expect while he is undergoing recruit training or when such action is prescribed by a medical officer. This does not keep a male marine from having his hair clipped or shaved to the scalp if he so desires. As male marines, when we get a haircut is determined by what unit and command you are with, but it is usually once every weekend. That is almost universal in the Marine Corps, but while being deployed, everything changes and you could go a few weeks before getting a haircut. So it just depends on where you are. For females, they do not have to get a haircut once a week like the male marines. But they do still have to keep it looking professional. The order on female Marines’ hair is pretty long. It basically says that when they

Marine Corps grooming standards are in place to conform Marines to a singular uniform look. They keep us from being too eccentric and while in Garrison they help us to keep a professional look about us at all times. They keep us from just “looking like everyone else,” and help us to stay a cut above the rest. The hair cut regulations are stated as an even fade from 0 to no more than 3” on the top of the head as long as the hair doesn’t interfere with any uniform article. There can be no eccentric designs or anything shaved into one’s head. For females the hair must be wrapped in a tight bun in the center of the back of the head not to exceed 3 inches from the scalp and be no wider than the width of one’s head. Females can wear bangs but they can’t fall into the line of sight and can’t affect the wearing of any headgear. For both male and female bleaches tints dyes are authorized as long as they give a natural appearance. No Marine will be required to shave his chest hair but it cannot protrude from the skivvy shirt collar or while in khakis. Marines must have a clean shave with the exception of a mustache which may not extend past the corners of the lips and must remain within the margin of the upper lip. Mustache hair when fully extended my not extend past half of an inch. Marines are allowed to have sideburns but they may not extend past the top of the upper orifice of the ear and may be no longer than one eighth of an inch. Hair may not be shaped in a “horse-shoe” on the head and no Mohawks are authorized. No Marine shall be required to shave their head with the exception of at basic training. Finger nails must be kept clean and may not interfere with regular duties; they may not extend past the finger tips either. Marines may not excessively pluck or remove eyebrows unless for a medical reason as prescribed by a doctor. All Marines are held to this even members of the Marine Corps reserve although reservists are authorized to wear wigs…

Today I am going to talk to you about the types and methods of searches conducted by staff in a custodial environment and also control measures in a custodial environment. Firstly, I am going to talk to you about searches in a custodial environment. Searches are very important in prisons overall for security purposes. Searches can be planned or random or part of the system of the prison, routine or intelligence-led. Everyone entering the prison needs to be searched before they are allowed in the prison, including staff. The type of searches depends on many things such as, the risk of safety that person may cause and what type of category the prison is. High security prisons, that hold Category A prisoners, will routinely search all staff and visitors. There are also x-ray machines to look in bags, coats and shoes of people that cross the security gates of the prison. In Category C prisons, visitors and staff aren’t routinely searched before entering the prison. Items that aren’t allowed to enter prisons are; metal, cutlery, scissors, computers, mobile phones and obviously alcohol, drugs and weapons. All goods that are arriving to the prison have to be screened, even post. This is extremely important because many stuff can be smuggled into the items, for example drugs can be smuggled into the prison by being concealed in the spine binding of books and magazines. Prison staff also search the prisoners cells and other parts of the building on a routine and intelligence-led basis. They also search the perimeter of the prisons walls outside to make sure nothing bad was thrown into the prison, for example weapons. Searching can also involve certain detectors and also dogs, for dangerous items that have slipped through the security checks. Staff have to respect individuals and their property during searching them.…
