Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug. The name marijuana is a Mexican slag word, which became popular in the 1930’s, which refers to the medicinal parts of the cannabis plant. Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture that is created through drying the leaves and flowering tops of the cannabis plant. The potency of marijuana differs depending on what part of the plant is used. The three topics of marijuana I will be discussing is legalization of marijuana, teen marijuana use, and long - term effects of marijuana.
The first and most basic reason that marijuana should be legal is that there is no good reason for it to be illegal. Some people ask ‘why should marijuana be legalized’? But we should ask ‘why should marijuana be illegal’? The government only has a right to limit those choices if the individual’s actions endanger someone else. This does not only apply to marijuana, since the individual who chooses to use marijuana does so according to his or her own free will. Furthermore, the Canadian government should legalize the usage of marijuana. Doing so would bring in a lot of money to the economy through taxation of marijuana, allow for research into marijuana’s potential medical benefit, and reduce violence. Marijuana should be legalized because it is not as harmful as a litany of already legal drugs, including extremely harmful prescription drugs.
There are many reasons why some teens start smoking marijuana. Most young people smoke marijuana because their friends or brothers and sisters use marijuana and pressure them to try it. Some young people smoke marijuana because they see older people in the family smoking it. Others may think it’s cool to use marijuana because they hear songs on marijuana and see it on TV and in movies. Some teens may feel they need marijuana to help them escape from problems at home, at school, or with friends. Some teens who take drugs do not get along with their parents. Some have a network of friends
