Mariah Carey Born on March 27, 1969 in Huntington, New York, Mariah Carey was the child of Alfred Roy and Patricia Hickey. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariah_Carey) During her childhood, she and her family struggled due to their race. When Mariah was three, her parents divorced. While her siblings moved with their father, Mariah and her brother stayed with their mother. At the age of four, she would sneak a radio with her to her bedroom and sing and try to find peace within the music she listened to. In elementary school, Mariah was successful in the different subjects that caught her attention, subjects like music, literature, and art while others did not interest her. While attending Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York, Mariah Carey soon started writing poems with melodies, which is one of the ways she became a singer-songwriter. Her mother, Patricia trained her to help maintain voice control and skills. In high school Mariah began working with Gavin Christopher, who helped her write songs. The two of them began writing and composing songs in Christopher’s basement of his father’s store while she was a senior. …show more content…
Working late into the night with high hopes of completing a demo, she still had her hopes of music. While she finished her four-tracked demo, she would hand it to music labels, but got rejected and failed every time. However, she unsuccessful with that, she was then introduced to pop singer, Brenda K. Starr. Their friendship grew and Brenda helped her succeed in the music industry. Brenda soon met the head of Columbia Records, Tommy Mottola and handed the demo tape. After that, Mottola and his staff agreed on making Mariah Carey their main female pop
