Manifest Destiny still exists, however in a more modernized form. In the 1800’s the main goal for everyone was to spread Americanization and be found everywhere. Although we still want America to expand, our reasons differ than the past. Curently are goal seems to be expanding our economic domination. Examples of this include spreading our economic domination in Afghanistan and Iraq.…
The idea of Manifest Destiny ran through American history since the 19th century. America began to expand through the continent, because it was their destiny to expand. America wanted to become bigger and greater. Manifest Destiny not only included the idea of being destined to expand America, but it also included the idea of expanding America for economic opportunity and for the progress of Liberty. America went straight for Manifest Destiny to better its economy and strength. Imperialism degrades other nations making them oppressed by their ruling countries, however the United States did try to expand their colony into the pacific ocean for the ideology of Manifest Destiny by having people from America going to other countries, building canals in other provinces and creating companies in China to expand the American economy.…

The manifest destiny was a term created by John O’Sullivan. The manifest is a belief that the U.S should expand across the whole continent of North America. It was an excuse for the Mexican American. The Manifest Destiny was another symbol of America’s progress and with the sun rising from the west, it represented “the nation’s bright future” (pg. 321), yet it still came with percussions. With more knowledge of this new territory, the government thought that the move was greatly important due to the nation’s rising popularity. However, once a certain article in a popular newspaper was written that the plenties of the West was only in certain people’s reaches, ideas of the Manifest Destiny started to turn into religious and racial superiority. John O’Sullivan wrote the article saying “The White Race alone received the divine command, to subdue and replenish the earth” (pg. 320) and "Civilization or extinction has been the fate of all people who have found themselves in the track of the advancing Whites" (pg. 320); meaning that it was fate for Whites to advance to the plentiful lands, but the whole manifest developed a very Jacksonian Democracy that emphasized white superiority. It was not only the African Americans to be affected, but the whites gave no sympathy as they walked into the Indian’s lands, subduing anyone that lived there.…
The idea that the United States had a “manifest destiny” led to more than simply acquiring land, though between 1845 and 1848, the United States would almost double in size, from 1.8 million square miles to almost 3 million. Many Americans supported versions of Manifest destiny for their own reasons. Land speculators and those promoting the extension of the nation’s railroads wanted to exploit the vast lands in the west. Farmers dreamed of starting over rich and cheap new lands. Workers believed that rapid national expansion would guarantee industrial profits and thus their jobs, or give them a chance to start over if necessary.…

Between the years of 1820-1850 a tremendous amount of change occurred in the U.S., thousands of people started to move to and populate the western territories of the United States in order to start a new life there. “Manifest Destiny” was a phrase coined by John L. O'Sullivan, which was the belief that Americans had the god given right to expand westward and spread their democratic ideals. Many believe Manifest Destiny was a positive movement that had many benefits, but it can be argued that it was a destructive act of greed that resulted in the causality of others. The expansion of the United States involved many aggressive moves made by the U.S., and overall caused more problems than solutions, politically and socially, but did hail some…
As a Native American of this land I’d like to address some important things that have been overlooked in the past years. The Manifest Destiny which took place in the 19th century, where Americans had the belief that the United States was destined to expand across the continent, had several severe consequences; some of which being about Native Americans. My ancestors wanted to be left alone yet the Indian Removal Act was passed, forcibly removing them from their lands and killing thousands of Native Americans. I’d like to request an apology and reparations for the consequences of the Manifest Destiny.…
Manifest Destiny was often associated with the Democratic Party. Manifest Destiny was the expansion of white Americans towards the west because they believed that it was inevitable and ordained by God. Americans assumed that all the land in America was theirs and anyone who had already claimed the land was bad. American’s took drastic measures to remove anyone such as the Indians on “their land”. While Americans headed west they drove out many Indians. Manifest Destiny also led to the justification of the Mexican War. President Polk was set on expanding and nothing was going to get in he way. Mexico was un-prepared for the war, which led to American victories along with America gaining California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. After…
Throughout the 1840s, the United States became infatuated with the thought of expanding west and using the idea of manifest destiny, which claimed that the American settlers were destined by divine powers to expand across the continent, to justify it. Although the land-hungry nation did gain a vast amount of new territory, westward expansion in the name of manifest destiny was not justified because of the many Indian lives that were destroyed, the total loss of integrity of the now brutal American empire, and the multiple conflicts that would result from it.…
