ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This project work would never have been an achievable task, had we not been under the great shelter of guidance of respected madam Dr. Manmeeta. Her simplified teaching technique based on examples has helped me gain more understanding of the subject.
The very essence of the project work is the linguistic precision which has an impact of conveying more details in least possible words. An ample use of various reference readings has been very frequently made while compiling data for this project. Such rich reading has been made available at hand by the treasure-like well maintained library of the National Law University, Jodhpur. We are very much grateful to the library staff of the university for their unfailing co-operation.
We are very much under obligation to mention here, the contributions of my batch mates who have, knowingly or unknowingly, provided me the competitive edge which is the driving force of the whole labour and extra labour put into the project.
Finally, we feel very much gratified to the administration of the National Law University, Jodhpur for providing comfortable environment and rich infrastructure which has always been a facilitating stuff.

Legal research is the crux and the very foundation of all legal works. It commences with an analysis of the facts of a case, after which issues are framed and then background information and other relevant materials are collected with regard to each issue. The next step involves organizing the collected materials and assessing it following which one arrives at conclusions. While researching due importance is to be given to the primary sources than secondary sources. The primary sources of law are authoritative basis of law created by law-making bodies like parliaments, courts and administrative authorities. Parliamentary bills, legislation, statutory rules, regulations and case laws form the primary sources of law. Secondary sources are not as reliable as primary sources and include books, textbooks, literature, encyclopedia, dictionaries and glossaries in the field of law.…

1.1 Legal Methods, Research Methodology, English language and Communication Skills 4 Credits 1.1 Legal Methods: This introductory course aims to familiarize beginners with the methods and materials of law and with the role of law in contemporary society. The course prepares students to think like lawyers. It explores the relevance of the role of law in the contemporary society and allows for juxtaposition of the legal process with the social, economic and political processes in society. The several perspectives from which question of law can be approached are demonstrated by an introduction to the various schools of jurisprudence. Law as an independent discipline has its own materials and methods. Though related to and reflective of social processes, its development is unique in several respects. The character and content of legal knowledge are explained to the student in a systematic fashion. Familiarity with the sources of law and with legal materials and competence to find the law by the use of the law library are major concerns of this course. The ability to appreciate law as a process in the context of other processes in society (political, economic, cultural, social) is one of the goals of this course. 1.1 Research Methodology: The course may help the student to think and act like a lawyer and responds to law studies accordingly. The course also introduces legal research methodology which includes the art of footnoting etc. 1.1 English language and Communication Skills: English will be taught as a compulsory (Non Credit) course as per the requirements of the Bar Council of India. Our colonial past has been held responsible for alienating common people from the justice delivery system. The language and rhetoric of legal discourse continues to tantalize both the legal expert and the layperson. The course addresses the nature and scope of English as the medium of legal discourse…
