Management Information System
Chapter 1 – Case Study
Case One- Shroff International Travel Care 1) Tour the www.airlinecenter.info website. Who do you think this website is primarily designed to assist local customers or global customers? A) I believe that www.airlinecenter.info website is designed to assist the local customers more so then the global market. The reasons being is that most of the options like the airfare, tour packages and hotels are designed for people in or near the Philippines. For example all of the outgoing flights are from the Philippine Airport to other destinations. The price is in the Philippine currency, the visa information is for the Philippine local community. The international tour information is in the Asia destinations and for mostly the Philippine community. The website is not completely updated with the proper coding and prices. 2) How does www.airlinecenter.info empower SITCI travel agents to provide better personal service to customers? A) They should design the website for the customer to be able to book their own flight or request that information from the travel company so there is not a delay in time for the customer. They should also include hotel links to provide access to the amenities from the hotel and difference in the rooms including the rates. Also, including suggestions for the clients that will provide access to quality places to dine and also go sightseeing to provide superior service to the clients. The company should have the ability to have custom travel plans including five day tour to special places and doing things such as going to different island and travel accommodations while you are there including getting to and from the locations. The sight should also have the possibility of having live chat or a drop box chat where the customer service representative calls you back, chats or emails you back with the answers to your questions or problems that are arising.

In an extremely regulated and thus relatively uniform industry such as the commercial airline industry, the successful airline is the organization which sets itself apart from the competition. Within an industry that requires customer planning to interface with flight schedules and security measures, a major operational aspect which can aid an airline in gaining an edge on the competition is customer service. The effective consumption of air travel (finding flights, buying tickets, getting through the airport, boarding a plane, and finally reaching the final destination) is not the same simple consumer –supplier relationship that the consumer experiences in a trip through the Wal-Mart checkout counter; the nature of air travel makes the interaction between the airline and the customer very complex. Almost every facet of the complex relationship between the airline and customer can generate a large amount of stress for the consumer; consumers find poor customer service in the face of tight travel deadlines and paid for travel plans that did not necessarily go as intended extremely frustrating.…

Of these members 80% are business travelers with the remaining 20% leisure travelers. With this information, marketing instituted surveys to determine what the needs of the members are.
