Section I: History and Mission
“At Microsoft, our mission and values are to help people and businesses throughout the world realize their full potential.” (About Microsoft: Our Mission)
“As a company, and as individuals, we value integrity, honesty, openness, personal excellence, constructive self-criticism, continual self-improvement, and mutual respect. We are committed to our customers and partners and have a passion for technology. We take on big challenges, and pride ourselves on seeing them through. We hold ourselves accountable to our customers, shareholders, partners, and employees by honoring our commitments, providing results, and striving for the highest quality.” (About Microsoft: Our Values) In January of 1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen decided to begin creating the BASIC program for the MITS Altair 8800. By February 1975 they sell it to the first customer of Microsoft, MITS Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the first computer language program for a personal computer was on the market. In the past 37 years Microsoft has been the leader in the computer technology world. Starting with Windows and branching into all types of Windows compatible programs, Microsoft has led and dominated the computer industry since its inception. They have since branched into gaming systems (the Xbox) and cellphone operating systems. Where they will go from here is limited only by the imagination and brains of the Research and Development (R&D) teams they have scattered throughout the world. The company is in 13 locations around the globe and has contributed to more than just computer technology. The R&D departments of Microsoft also work on developing an HIV vaccine and on improving education in rural areas. Microsoft really does work to help people all over the world realize their full potentials! (The History of Microsoft, 2012)
