Catalan language and culture1. The Spanish nationalists have been attacking the bilingual
Catalan community for years and the Catalans have become fed up. However, very few of them are actually vocal about defending their language, which causes some doubt among the Spanish nationalists on whether the Catalans are truly loyal to their national identities. Throughout

Catalonia is forced to give about 6.4-8.7% of the GDP to Spain in order to pay for their investments and services1. Because of their financial support of Spain, Catalonia cannot pay for its own basic services and it has worse public services than subsidized regions.
The poor conditions have angered the Catalonian people, causing them to want a drastic change in the government and the way things are run in their country. The Catalan and Spanish governments have been butting heads over Catalonia’s fiscal involvement in Spain’s economy and the Catalan people are tired of their disagreement. Because of the disrespect for their language and their lacking economic structure from investment in Spain, that Catalonian people have concluded that they only solution left is to gain independence from Spain.

One of the most important reasons why nationalism is a major cause of total war is that nationalism raised citizens’ desire of gaining independence and dominance (World War I – nationalism). Before nationalism settled in, the war seems to be stuck and neither side of the alliances was able to defeat the opposition. Nation like Russia and Germany continuously send troops to the front line, however, it is not that affective, which they causes many innocent people to die but the war still seems not moving. However, after nationalism settles in, nations…

The Ottoman and the Spanish Empire were politically similar in their governing system, but different in the way that they distributed their policies. The Ottoman Empire, unlike the Spanish, had an empire based mainly on religion. Aside from that slight exception, both empires had a similar way of politics. Both leaders (king and sultan) had complete control, neither one had to appeal to any court or council to approve of any decisions or decrees made. The Spanish gave only those born in Spain governmental positions, while the Ottoman gave anyone who was Muslim and had qualifications, a chance at a government position. Both empires were constantly at war with neighboring countries. For example, Spain was constantly at war with England, France, and Portugal whilst the Ottoman Empire was constantly at war with other European nations. The Spanish practiced primogeniture, where only the first born of the king was given the right to become heir to the throne. The Ottoman, however, did not have a practice such as that and relatives would often deceive and fight against each other for the throne. The Spanish would also prosecute those of Jewish, Islamic, and Protestant faith. The reason for this was that they feared their empire would be taken over again by the Ottoman, or by another empire.…
