Making a Difference in the World
To make a difference in this world I have to continue to help people, start making a difference in people’s lives, and make the world a better place one step at a time.
Ever since I was young I always wanted to help people. I wanted to make their lives better, which would usually make mine better too. If I ever saw someone hurt, or crying I would be the first one to go and try to help them. I don’t know if that was what my parents taught me, or if that was just the type of person I was supposed to be. But whatever it was, I always helped. I found pleasure from helping someone.
I remember in history class we would always read about people who did amazing things in their lives. Like Martin Luther King Jr, or Abraham Lincoln. How they persevered and kept going. That’s the way I want my life to be. I want to be remembered for making a difference. I don’t want it for the fame or the glory. It could even be something that made a very small difference but still impacted someone and I would be happy. I have tried to remember that my actions mean something in the long run. What kind of person do you want to be remembered as when your friends look back at Junior High and High school?
In elementary school I had a friend who got made fun of, and didn’t always fit in. One day my friend had told me about the bullying that was going on. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. How could someone go around tormenting someone the way they were? After my friend had told me about that I knew I had to do something. The bell rang for recess and I spotted the boy who had been bullying my friend. I walked right over there and told him that the things he was saying are hurtful. Then I told him he had to apologize. Ever since then, that bully never bullied my friend again. It felt good that I stood up for someone and made their school life a lot better. Since that experience I have always stood up for anyone who was getting bullied.
Making a difference not only helps the person who got

Ever since I was young, I was always interested in the idea of helping people other than myself. I never knew the actual meaning of truly helping another person until October, 2010, my freshman year. My resolve for helping others sparked into a flame when I visited a church in San Jose where I experienced something that would completely change my life. At this church, there was an organization called Milal that helps take care of people with disabilities. It was in that place that I was able to learn the true meaning of helping others.…

Jane Goodall once said, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” To make a difference, an individual must be willing to make a difference, no matter the consequences. An individual must be brave, smart, and they have to stick to their morals.…

I came to realize that I can make a difference when I helped a student in elementary school. This happened when I was 12 years old and still a student. It was during lunch break, some students were walking, others having their lunch. I was walking to the washroom and saw a group of students in the corridor talking loudly to another student; I was under the impression that they were friends but later understood that he was being bullied. My first reaction was to ignore them and pass by, but I could feel the helplessness of the student being bullied.…

I knew that everyone in this world is here for a reason and that death will come to all of us one day, so what can I do to leave a mark in this world? I knew for a fact that what I truly wanted is to live a life where I can impact the generation ahead of me for the greater good. One of the biggest way I learned to fulfill this purpose was through The LEAP Foundation. I have been a part of LEAP for 4 years, but in the summer of 2015, I was offered the opportunity to become a mentor for high school students as a leadership coach. Being a coach has given me a broader perspective of who I wanted to be and the life I wanted to live even after I left the comfort of high school life. The more and more I began to emphasize the principles to my group of students, the more I began to reevaluate and remember the importance of setting goals and defining what it means to be successful. I begin to shift back to the person that I used to be, believing that I was a 10, I was unstoppable. By the end of LEAP week, I got into the daily habit of…

As of now, I have placed in soccer tournaments with various soccer clubs (some of them in the premier division, which is the highest division in MOSA), won elementary school chess tournaments, won the "Catena Fun Run" for my age group, and got the most noteworthy presidential grant there is when I graduated fifth grade. I self-taught myself the piano and can play many classical pieces such as "Turkish March" and "Nutcracker", am in honors math and the gifted and talented program, made "Back in Black" band for my saxophone, and got to go to all the track meets for the 200 meter run, even winning one. Last of all, I received all A+s in every subject for every marking period in 7th grade. Each and every one of these achievements is a piece of my story, or my legacy, and could be considered as great accomplishments for one of my age. Obviously, though, I still have a lot more room to accomplish more and grow, and add bits of success to my legacy. I would like to have the success of being accepted into Biotec, and later go on to become a doctor of some sort. As I proceed with my life, I would also want accomplishments in my interests, activities, and schooling to become part of my legacy as well. However, accomplishments are great, but something else is an important part of your legacy- change. As of now, I haven't really made any immense or significant changes to the school or world. I mean, with everything you accomplish you definitely alter your school and world in some small way, but when I think of a great big change, I think of something that positively impacts everyone in a specific group, such as a school or world. This is why again, I don’t think I have made any huge changes as of now, but I would like to and without a doubt plan on doing so in the future. That's part of the reason I want to become a doctor- with every person they help heal, those people can get back on their feet and…

Whether it was holding the door open for the person behind me or simply telling them to have a nice day, my favorite thing to do has always been to make people smile. In elementary school, more often than not, I assumed the role of class helper. This entailed staying after class parties to help clean up messes or spending extra time at recess to make sure all of the kickballs were in their specific spots. As I've grown up, it only makes sense that my love for helping people in any shape or form has translated into a love for volunteering. Whether it is tutoring elementary school children or helping run a clothing drive, the numerous altruistic tendencies that have been instilled in me through volunteer work will forever shape who I am as a…

Throughout my life I have wanted to help others and found myself in jobs which involved looking after people. I examined my motivation for helping others; I have sometimes helped others because it made me feel useful, accepted and valued. At times in my life, I have experienced low self esteem. Therefore by helping someone, I have felt useful and valued, which has in turn increased my self esteem. This is certainly not a healthy motivation for helping others.…
