Part C: Making Graph and Data-Based Decisions (60 points) Paragraphs should be typed and written in complete sentences. Please use project headings for each section. Use Times New Roman, 12-pt font and double space. Cite any resources in APA format.

This assignment requires you to collect your own data and to use that information to make decisions. This project happens in two parts. Part (due Seminar 4) requires you to identify a topic. Parts 2-5 (due Seminar 5) require you to collect and use the data.

You will need to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. You must design a survey to collect your data. Make sure you have at least one qualitative and a least one quantitative variable

I am interested because I drive very far from work and I wonder if other people base their decisions on cars on how many miles they drive. I think that most people that drive shorter distances drive less gas efficient vehicles and people who drive further are more likely to drive a more economical vehicle. The quantitative data I am collecting will be the number of miles a person drives one way to work. The qualitative data would be the type of vehicle each person drives.

3. Data Collection: (1-2 paragraphs)
Identify the population for your study. (3 pts.)
I will be surveying family, friends and co-workers.

Discuss your method of sampling (i.e. random, systematic, stratified, convenience, etc.). Explain why this method was chosen. (3 pts.)
The method I am using is convenience. I sent a text message to friends and family and those who responded were included. As for the coworkers, I asked the first one I saw until I had my data.

Does your method of sampling introduce any bias that may affect your results? (3 pts.)
There is no bias here. I picked the first people I saw without any regard for what they drive.

Are you conducting an observational study or a survey? Explain. Include the survey you used to collect your data. (3 pts.)
I am conducting a survey.

Miles to work

Truck
SUV
Van / Minivan

That was not at all what I found instead the majority of people drive an SUV and it was not in any direct relation to their mileage.
Car
0.30%
Truck
0.20%
SUV
0.40%
Van/Minivan
0.10%

I chose to do a radar graph for the quantitative data (mileage). This graph gives a pinpoint in the middle and since everyone drives a different amount of miles this tyoe of graph shows the data in a more friendly way.

For the qualitative data I chose a bar graph. There were only 4 options to choose from so there are only 4 different sets of data. I thought a bar graph would depict this information the easiest.

5. Final Conclusion: (1-2 paragraphs)
Summarize your final conclusions based on your sample data and your initial stated goals for the study. Were you were surprised by the results of your project or did your summary verify what you suspected? Why? (5
