(Colquitt, J., Lepine, J., & Wesson, M., 2011) This paper will focus on the leadership of Earvin 溺agicJohnson as a basketball player and businessman. Earvin 溺agicJohnson was most recognized as a basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Los Angeles Lakers. I chose Magic because he demonstrated great leadership among fellow teammates and throughout the NBA, and he continues to demonstrate leadership in the business world.
As an avid basketball player and fan I had the honor to meet Magic in the late 90's at a basketball summer camp. Even as a young student of the game I knew the man everyone knows as Magic would become a greater person and leader. During the summer camp Magic came in and spoke to everyone as a person not just a basketball star. Magic talked about winning a championship in college and NBA, achieving goals, education and motivation.

I was lucky enough to sit down with him and ask him a few questions about his past and present life. My first question was about his nickname magic. I asked how he had got his name and if he had enjoyed being called that for the majority of his life. He explained that during a game for Everett High school he put up a triple double and one announcer said he’s magical! From then on he was known as magic, he said “I’m used to magic, if I hear it I will respond, but many people closest to me call me other names such as buck or my real name. Magic is more of a stage name.” Next I asked what his most memorable moment of college was. He explained, “I remember most the game between my Michigan state Spartans and Larry birds Indiana State Sycamores in the national championship game. We won and it set a rivalry that would be continued for the next 12 years.” How you able to dribble the ball as well as you did at 6’9” amazes me, how were you able to accomplish such a feat? “I started out small.” He said, “I was a point guard from the beginning and I just kept growing. Once I got to college I was able to play any position on the court and I did from time to time!” There were multiple occasions in his NBA career where he had to play center due to an injury to the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.…
