    Female Magazine

I read a magazine call “GL” which stands for girl’s life. It is focus on teens, and it is one of the popular teen magazines for female. Of course, the pop star “Justin Biber” was on the cover which caught my eyes. In the magazine, the question of today was “Are you cheating on your boyfriend?” wasn’t too proper for teen to start off. The advertisement weren’t bad; they were mostly movies, and clothing. The articles were somewhat positive and negative. There was article about “100 ways to look cute”, and I was standing there thinking “That’s a lot”. They were teaching how to look “flirty” which I have no idea how. It was just terrible article about putting make up on; I don’t believe teens need to look flirty to anybody. There was another article about spring trends for under $20 which wasn’t so bad, it gave pretty good cloth to wear, I thought it was good, because girls tend to want expensive stuff. Another article was “Make Him Yours” it was just awful; it was real guy telling them how to approach, and what not to do. Honestly, teens don’t need to learn how to flirt with guy, first of all; article was just useless, “look at him with your new make up on” is not what teens have to learn. One of the positive article was about “10 ways to prepare for your period”. I am not sure it was right ways since I’m a guy. However, if the content is right, girls need to know how to prepare for them, how to treat them right, so I thought it was educating. Also, there was article call “I feel fat” which was for teen who think they are fat. They gave solutions for it, and some advice. It was surprisingly helpful, and it gave some good solutions, such as like a fun spring workout. However, I have no idea why they gave worse dresser for Jennifer Stone who is little chubby, and gave best dresser to Emma Robert who is skinny. They both looked fine to me, but I thought it would lower some “girls” self-esteem, because they are little bigger…

I enjoyed multiple stories in this film. The first story that stood out for me the most was the mother who had cancer. This story was extremely sad for me because I could not picture my mother in that position. I believe they are communicating through filming because the mother wants to put her story out there. By watching this film the mother seems like she is a strong person who does not mind putting her story out there because she does not want anyone to feel like they are the only ones going through this experience. My reaction was surprised when I saw her marks on her back from the cancer. I did not think she would show that on camera to the world. In her case I believe that verbal communication was the most affective especially when she was talking to her son. The next story that stood out for me was the older couple who wrote their vows for each other. I found that clip humorous. I believe for them communicating verbally is special for them to share what they want for each other. Just from watching their clip I could get an insight of their life just by the way they jokes with each other in their vows. It is easy to tell that they have a strong marriage and are not afraid to joke around with each other.…

It's flower season at the City of Pines -- perfect timing for an all-out fiesta in the streets. The Baguio folks take a break on these days to revel in the cool climate and the unique culture of their city. Multi-hued costumes are worn, mimicking the various blooms of the highland region (or any of its 11 ethnic tribes). There's also the half-dozen or so flower beds-- disguised, of course, as the Panagbenga parade floats.…

Debaters frequently fail to cross-examine effectively. Often, debaters ignore the role of cross-examination and use it simply as more preparation time while their teammate engages in an unproductive discussion with an opponent. However, cross-examination can be a powerful tool, not only a means to demonstrate a debater’s ability to think critically and on the spot, but also an aid for a team’s refutation and argumentation techniques. This article discusses the goals of cross-examination and effective cross-examination techniques. Beginning debaters can be afraid of cross-examination periods. Oftentimes, this is because they misperceive them as impromptu discussions. This is incorrect: cross-examination is just as much an impromptu process as it is prepared. There are two distinctive groups of debaters who often perform two opposite mistakes. One group does not prepare for cross-examinations at all—when debates start, they end up using all their preparation time to prepare for a cross-examination. This is not an effective strategy: these debaters worry intensely about the quality of the questions they prepare, and fail to pay attention to their opponents’ arguments while preparing them. Guided by their fear of the impromptu, such debaters present weaker arguments and weaker refutations; they come up short as attentive listeners and active questioners. As a judge, I have witnessed many debates where debaters could not refute their opponents’ arguments because they did not understand them, though, had they paid attention, things would have been clear. The other group of debaters relies excessively on precautionary strategies and prepares all their questions in advance. Then, equally stressed, they read out their pre-prepared questions even when these do not address the arguments presented by the debaters of the opposing team. Debaters in both groups need to realize that cross-examination has both prepared…

The Playboy of the Western World gains its title from the scene in which Christy can't be beaten in play at any of the village sports, hence he becomes the "playboy." The phrase "of the Western World" leads the way into Synge's theme of Irish mythmaking, then still especially noticeable in unsophisticated peasant groups. With the inclusion of this phrase, the myth of the playboy encompasses the whole world. Mythmaking deviates from reality, as is made clear by the stretch of the title: Irish village game championship can't possibly trump an entire world of athletes. Synge isn't discussing a universal theme but rather exposing a particularly Irish theme, that of mythmaking.…
