Madness In Hamlet
Shakespear’s Hamlet contains multiple themes that are encountered throughout, however two significant themes are Revenge and Madness. More than one character in the play are pursuing to get revenge for something specific, especially for the death of their fathers. Furthermore, it is really interesting how all the characters have different perspectives and seek retaliation. One small example is when old Hamlet killed old Fortinbras and took his lands, young Fortinbras now has a desire to gain avengement for his dad. In order to do that, he wants to kill young Hamlet and get back the lands that Norway lost. Additionally, the theme of Madness is also present in various situations. One prime example is when Hamlet is moaning about how depressed he is over his father's death and mom's remarriage. Having that in mind, it leads to further “craziness” and “madness” throughout the play on Hamlet's part. Regardless, these themes fascinate me due to each character’s motivations. You can argue that the ghost is actually real and Hamlet isn't going crazy, he is just acting like he is. However, Hamlet is a very important and significant character in the play because he is the prince. He might be the only person that sees the ghost due to the fact that he might be very vulnerable that it's causing him to be delusional. Yet his friends agree with him because he is the prince and do not want to show that he is crazy. If that's the case, then Hamlet is really going mad because seeing the ghost is leading him to kill Claudius. There are other signs in the story that also show Hamlet's “craziness”.
