Machiavelli The Prince Essay
Citizens rely on their leaders to solve problems in a quick and easy way. They will then label a leader good or bad based on the conclusion of the problem they were faced with instead of allowing the leader to earn or downgrade to a title.Leaders should be labeled properly with their characteristics, they demonstrate while leading. The traits of virtue, fortune, and power politics play a powerful role in how effective of a leader someone is. If a leader misuse these traits then he will not be as effective of a leader. Niccolò Machiavelli wrote The Prince to try and help upcoming leaders, or kings, be great ones. The way he wrote the book raises a deceptive leader instead of one who truly tries and earns things. When Machiavelli writes about virtue he introduces the idea that as long as a king appears virtuous, even if he takes a path of evil and crime, then he is still in good condition. Machiavelli lived with the idea that if the public supports the leader, then he can do no wrong. Another leadership characteristic is fortune. Machiavelli had his own views on this as well. He believe that fortune can be both inherited and earned. Although both are fortune, it being earned is much more enviable than the inherited, since it shows dedication and an encouraging mindset. Precautions should also be taken that way a king is open to changes and does not lose his powerful position easily. Also, he write about being loyal to the country and flexible with the citizens living there, but to also achieving his own greatness and goals. Lastly Machiavelli mentions power politics. He wrote that a prince looking to be a leader, or king, should master the skills of manipulation, deception, selfishness and commanding with force at a young age. He believed that a demonstration of power would earn loyalty and that a king should be used to breaking promises (Machiavelli).
