Macbeth Diary Entry
Dear diary,
I was one of the best soldiers. I fought for my king, alongside one of my closest friends, Banquo. We destroyed the enemy and were on our way home from the bloody battlefield when we were confronted by three hideous creatures.
These things were not human. They had twisted limbs and eyes sunken deep into their rotting flesh. They were barely covered by dirty, ripped up rags. They glared at us, and smiled mischievously, showing us their yellow teeth. They introduced themselves as the weird sisters. They were witches.
Macbeth will become thane of cawdor and then king’ they said and immediately my mind went on a trip as I imagined all the things I could do as thane and then king. But the witches weren’t finished.
‘Banquo shall never be king, but his sons and his sons sons shall rule.’
I didn’t bother to consider Banquo’s prophecy, when out of the blue came Ross and Angus who informed me that I had been appointed thane of cawdor. I rushed home and told my wife of what the witches had said. She hesitated, imagining what she could do married to the king.
‘King Duncan plans to the stay the night here. Lets make the witches predictions come true. We shall kill the king!’ she announced. I began to grow hesitant, and my wife saw this.
‘Are you to scared?!?’ she cried. I was not going to have my masculinity questioned.
‘Of course not. And I shall prove it to you by killing the king. Just you watch. We shall rule Scotland!’ I yelled. My wife cackled in glee.
That night, I crept into the kings chamber, clutching a dagger tightly. King Duncan was sleeping peacefully. As I lifted the dagger, I froze. The blade seemed to be covered in blood already! I shook my head, hoping that the apparition would disappear. Sure enough it did. So I brought the blade down and painted it red with the Kings blood.
They say the first murder is always the hardest. I must agree with that, for it was much easier for me to kill the sleeping guards of the recently deceased

My son Malcolm informed me today that the former Thane of Cawdor has died. In my opinion, he got what he deserved after he arrogantly betrayed us. But before dying he asked for my forgiveness and he was deeply sorry. I shall never forgive that traitor and may he burn in hell for his disloyalty. He is a disgrace to his clan and all of Scotland. After a while, my subjects, including Macbeth came. I was so happy with Macbeth, what he did can never be repaid. I praised him in front of my subjects, so they can view him as role model. Banquo's actions were also good but they cannot be compared to Macbeth's actions . Before they left, I made an important announcement. I've declared my son Malcolm to be heir to the throne. From now on he'll be the…

Ever since King Duncan’s death; turmoil, corruption and treachery have all poisoned the castle. It has corrupted my soul, it has changed my beliefs and in some regards, I have lost my faith. I am merely a servant; I am not one to judge, but I have seen and witnessed many things. It seems the presence of a servant is forgotten. That I do not have ears and eyes; that I do not see as others do. The only thing that keeps my tongue still is the love I have for my lady. I would not say I am clear on this fact, but it is in my belief that my lady assisted in the death of King Duncan. Since his death, I have watched her sleep, she has uttered strange and foul words, her actions are not normal. If any others saw her, they would say she is possessed and in my own mind, I, too, could believe that.…

The witches tell Macbeth that he would soon be rewarded with the title Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and the future king of Scotland. Macbeth. Although he questions the validity of the prophecies, Macbeth is curious to know more. Before he was able to question the witches any further they had vanished into thin air, to which restless Macbeth exaggerated out loud, “Stay you imperfect speakers. Tell me more. /By Finel’s death, I know I am Thane of Glamis, /But how of Cawdor? The Thane of Cawdor live /A prosperous gentleman, and to be king / Stands not within my belief, / No more than to be Cawdor. Say from whence /You owe me this strange intelligence” (Shakespeare, 1.3.68-74). Macbeth’s curiosity feeds his desire to attain more knowledge about the prophecies and the use of irony aids in displaying his eagerness to know more about his future. Macbeth does not understand how he can be named Thane of Cawdor while the current Thane still lives. This is ironic because little does he know that the Thane had been removed of his title under the charge of treason and that Macbeth had been appointed the new Thane. The…
