Understanding business ethics.
M·A·C Cosmetics, Makeup Artist Cosmetics, was founded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo in 1984. The first U.S M·A·C store opened in 1991, in New York, Long before their company history, MAC cosmetics founders directed their product line towards professionals in the beauty and fashion industry who had to rely on heavy cosmetics, cake makeup and stage makeup to create the visual effects needed to withstand bright lighting during photo shoots. Who better to rise up to this demand than a fashion photographer? With a glamorous image and a celebrity endorsed product line, MAC cosmetics took the beauty industry by storm. Finally the novice makeup artist could create special effects without the use of stage makeup. The average city gal could create an urban look that was wearable from nine to five with evening cocktails after hours, and brides finally had a cosmetic line they could rely on to capture beautiful wedding photos.
It is important for a business too be ethical, this is because it is important to do the right this for all stakeholders which are involved in that business. You need to act in a way in which will keep everyone happy, sometimes this is hard for a business and creates a lot of pressure for them. Not only is it important for a business to be ethical but also to be socially responsible. This means making sure all business activities don’t harm people or the society around it. This includes people who live in the area and also work in the area. Sometimes this can be hard for a business however I feel that MAC do this is a good way.
M·A·C has five social initiative programs currently in place: * M·A·C Cruelty-Free Beauty: principle that prohibits animal testing and the policy is extended to ingredient suppliers as well (M.A.C. no longer guarantees its products are cruelty free. An organization should perform with ethical conduct at all times- this means that both the employers and employees must act respectably throughout all the various dimensions of business practice and transactions with consistent ethicality. Good business ethics are vital for the success of any organization, and should be established from the very beginning; an organization will function better when the company morale is high, and the organization is built upon a strong ethical foundation. When the groundwork is paved with a concrete set of business ethics, this provides a more meaningful workplace, and a more clearly outlined path for the organization to follow- correctly guiding behavior and business transactions in the right direction. An organization which functions unethically, in my opinion, will not function successfully. Despite how much money a business makes, it is worth nothing without integrity. Without integrity a company is ultimately unethical, and entirely worthless; good business ethics can make or break a company, and heavily depends upon whether or not the company will succeed.…
