The condemnation first starts when the witches tell Macbeth and Banquo the future that one of them will be king. Macbeth is instantly thrilled about the news, yet Banquo is wary of their fate that was foretold. Once the witches leave Banquo says, “The instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betray in deepest consequence”. Macbeth disregards the warning and advances home. Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth of his newly appointed position. Lady Macbeth quickly devises a retched plan to murder the king so Macbeth can seize power. Lady shoots poisonous arrows into Macbeth’s thoughts, yet Macbeth gleans to not disturb the arrows. Macbeth murders his first victim for the throne of Cawdor. He then continues to kill the two watch guards so that their screams of deceit cannot be heard by the ears of justice. The people of Cawdor are now leery of Macbeth’s actions, but since he is appointed king they follow in fear of his rule. Banquo knows in his mind the Macbeth is to not be trusted and he leaves the scene very quickly. The king’s sons also leave along with MacDuff before they are next to receive the kiss of death.
Macbeth is delirious with power now that he is king, and he intends to make sure he stays at the top of his mountain. He hires two assassins to murder Banquo and his son. If they are murdered than no one can destroy his power. Banquo quickly realizes that he is poisoned and pushes his assailants out of the way so his son can escape. Macbeth then orders to murder all of Banquo’s family so that no one can grab his throne from underneath his power hungry feet. Macbeth continues to stomp his way down the unrighteous path, and he is willing to kill anyone that gets in his way. While Macbeth is at his dinner party he sees Banquo’s ghost during the middle of the festive. He speaks to the ghost and wishes that it may change into any other form because it would not make him petrified. Macbeth’s guilty consciousness is now catching up to him, yet he still refuses to acknowledge his atrocious actions.
Macbeth returns to the witches who tell him to beware MacDuff, something not woman born will put an end to him, and he should begin to worry when the Birmun forest comes his way. MacDuff left the castle when the original king was killed and he also left his wife and children at home believing they would be left out of harm ways. MacDuff gave Macbeth too much credit as to being a decent human because Macbeth murders all of MacDuff’s family. Macbeth sees MacDuff’s family as another pawn he has to get rid off in his ludicrous game of chess. Not only does Macbeth realize what he is doing is wrong, he repeatedly goes about killing all opposing threats.
Macbeth was the one who chose to continue committing his acts of violence and indecency. Macbeth was willing to sacrifice everything to get his crown that was promised to him, yet he chose to murder helpless people. He could have waited for the King to die of old age, and not get his hands dirty with the blood of the innocent. Instead of letting “chance” crown him, he took matter into his own hands and sculpted his own future.
