Think of what teenagers are learning at school and how it affects their lives. These lunches can in turn, affect what students eat outside of school in a potentially harmful way. School cafeteria lunches serve meals that can potentially be dangerous to one’s health. Including healthier lunches or not in cafeterias can be argues both ways. Students take into account what they eat in school and what they will eat outside of school. This essay discusses the effects of cafeteria lunches. It describes how lunches can be helpful or harmful to a teenager’s lifestyle. School cafeterias should provide healthier lunches for students. Schools need options for students that can in the end benefit their health.…
How would a student feel if they knew that the USDA allowed the school to provide meals which could make them unhealthy, or even sick? Lunch, as most know, is a very important part of a student’s school day. The food eaten at lunch should provide enough energy to complete the school day as a focused, learning student, and, for some students, to get through after school activities such as athletics and clubs; however, it is being seen more and more often that this is not the case. Chatham County Schools needs to improve its school lunches because the quantity, quality, and cost ratios are inadequate for the success of their students.…

Although some students might say they enjoy the hot pizza served everyday, one cannot argue the amount of dripping grease coming off the slice. Coming to the conclusion that those who enjoy it might not be too concerned about their health. And it is obvious to say that foods like that are not at all healthy. Bringing lunch from home however, one can always put together a quality meal. Adding healthy options like cut fruits and vegetables that the school does not offer. It is logical to say that food made in cafeterias is strictly made for the amount of convenience instead of quality.…
Recently there has been revisions to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and schools were required to overhaul their entire menus to provide the students with healthy and nutritious foods including fruits and vegetables. The new school lunch rules are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which has been implemented this fall. (Post Standard) The Hunger Act allows the USDA the opportunity to make reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs. With these revisions come strict guidelines from the federal government that each school district must follow in order to receive funding and reimbursement (National School Lunch Program, 2012, August p. 1). In this essay i will be comparing the positive and negative effects of these recent revisions to the NSLP. I will then discuss whether or not these changes are beneficial to the children receiving the meal and whether NSLP is leaving children hungry or helping children make healthy food choices.…
Schools lunches have been in the news a lot over the last few years. Parents want their children to have health, tasty, and affordable food. With raising health concerns, fuel prices, food cost, and unemployment rates, it is getting harder to meet all the demands. Also, let us not forget the fussy eater and food allergies that are on the raise across the globe.…

Everyday kids should have mix it up for lunch because kids can have more freedom and more responsibly. In PCMS, WI, when there's a special occasion sometimes they do a mix it lunch and kids love doing that because they have much more freedom. To begin with, I'm guessing you're wondering what a mix it up lunch is or you might of never heard such a thing like that, so what a mix it up lunch is it's where you can eat whenever between the 20 minutes because there's 2 half one is you can eat first or go out to recess it doesn't matter which one you pick to do first plus when you're done eating you don't gotta wait for a teacher to excuse you, you can excuse yourself and can go to recess or you can stay at lunch the whole two half or you can go to recess first then go to lunch and if you want to stay a lunch for the rest of the time you can or when your done eating lunch you can go back to recess. Mix it up lunch is a great style for schools.therefore.…
One reason that the school boards should improve our school lunches is because kids get to choose want they want for school. According Mary L. Gavin, MD can choose to eat the green beans or throw them out. A kid also can choose to eat an apple instead of an ice cream sandwich. Another reason is Because they serve junk food everyday. According to Richard J. Codey junk food should be banned at schools because it leads to obesity. It also can affect their future for them. My last reason they should change our school lunch is that during lunch a kid eats half of their calories during lunch in school, because they…
the question, why can’t students leave school for lunch? There are so many other places school cafeteria food doesn’t even compare to. If they were allowed to leave, they would have more lunch options, become more independent, and gain more social experience with the real world. Schools wouldn’t have to make as many lunches for kids which would allow them to make them higher quality. Students should be able to leave school for lunch so that they can eat healthier and become more independent. If students were allowed to leave for lunch, they would be able to eat healthier, more nutritious lunches. It would also give them a chance to go home and make any meal they want. Some people like school lunches but I’m sure that chicken every day for a…
Schools should make sure that the lunch they provide is nutritious. Julia Tofan, a high school student in Connecticut states, “Students deserve balanced meals that will enable our minds and bodies to power through our busy days -- not a sugar rush that won't last beyond the lunch period” (Tofan and Millerick 1). Tofan is insisting that school lunches should be healthy. School providing junk food to the students are failing them because those are calories that break down easily. Once that food is gone the students will be hungry again making lunch a waste. However, healthy foods will stick with students throughout a longer period of time as well as helping students become healthier. Schools providing nutritious lunches will allow students to…
In an article written by Liz Nakazawa about the school lunch problem, she states that “childhood obesity rates and student tendencies to graze on vending machine and fast food fare are only going to worsen, some experts say, if lunch periods become rushed or occur too early or too late to coincide with peak hunger periods.” When schools are forced to have many lunch periods, then logic will tell us that they will not be very long. When a student only has twenty minutes to stand in a long line just to get their lunch and then find a place to eat it, many students will choose to forgo the line and just grab a quick snack and a soda from the vending machines.... Next, there needs to be better lunches at the cafeteria at HMS. First of all, the lunches need to be bigger so the students can eat more. Before it was stated that students need food to focus in class. The current lunch sizes are for elementary schoolers. Middle schoolers are growing and need more food. Some people believe that the lunch sizes are fine but they are wrong because the kids will still be hungry. Ask the students, make a survey they will be hungry after lunch. They don’t have enough food and the little food we get is not even filling. For example, they have five small chicken wings that cost four dollars. The amount of chicken wings that we get is worth $1. Next, more kids will eat and it will be good for health. The school can…
Today I’m going to be explaining why upperclassmen should have the option of an open campus lunch period. Now you may have some misgivings about this idea. Things such as no way of controlling who is leaving the school grounds, the cost of buying food, and the safety of those behind the wheel. But these are false presumptions that are made about open or off-campus lunch.…
“Frozen burger patties from California 's Don Lee Farms serve schoolchildren in Fairfax County, Va., and are composed of 26 different ingredients, most of them unpronounceable for the average consumer" (Zhao). We as adults must take note of what is being fed to our children during lunch because the regulations some of these schools have do not regulate some of these unknown substances. Our futures are at stake here, the young kids of today are our future and if we do not take some initiative and help them with this growing epidemic than there is no future to look forward to. Overweight children and adolescents are more likely to be overweight or obese adults and more likely to suffer early heart disease and death. (Gardener) If this problem is not solved when the kids are young, then they are not going to be healthy adults. In the United States, federal statistics estimate that 9 million adolescents (17 percent of the population) are overweight and 80 percent of overweight adolescents grow up to be obese adults. Childhood obesity rates have tripled since 1970. (Gardener) The epidemic of obesity can only be fixed if we educate the public. I also feel that this problem can be resolved by developing a new lunch program. It would be helpful if the federal government helped out. “The reimbursement rate for a reduced-price lunch is $2.17 and 24 cents for a paid meal.…
