Lunar And Solar Eclipse
Madison Gaddy
Lunar & Solar Eclipse Lunar Eclipse occurs when the earth comes between the sun and the moon in such a way that it blocks the sun’s rays completely from reaching the moon. Solar Eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun in such a way that the sun is totally blocked from view. Lunar Eclipse only occurs on the full moon night which means that the moon is on the other side of the earth from the sun. Solar eclipse always occurs on the new moon which means that the moon is almost between earth and the sun. During a Solar Eclipse looking directly at the sun is very dangerous and can cause permanent damage to the retina. Use of a certified solar filter or use of special glasses is advised. During the Lunar Eclipse the moon is completely safe to look at and can be watched for as long as you want. A Solar Eclipse is only visible in very few parts of the earth due to the size of the moon in comparison to the earth. However, the lunar eclipse is virtually visible to anyone on the night side of the earth. The Solar Eclipse in its totality would not last for more than six to seven minutes at best, however, the totality of the Lunar Eclipse may last for almost an hour. During a Lunar Eclipse the moon would generally appear red or copper in color due to the sunlight filtered by the earth’s atmosphere but would generally remain visible. During a Solar Eclipse the sun would disappear completely behind the moon for a few minutes. Partial lunar eclipse generally occurs twice a year however the solar eclipse occurs approx. at a gap of 18 months. The location of the solar eclipse is different every time. The eclipse occurs at the same spot only once every 370 years. In summary, Lunar Eclipse is when the earth comes between sun and the moon blocking any sunlight from reaching the moon whereas Solar Eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the sun and the earth blocking the view of the sun from the earth. Lunar Eclipse is visible on the

These events mark the start of the seasons; the equinoxes occur on or about March 21 and Sep 22, while the solstices occur on or about June 21 and December 21. 25. How is an annular eclipse of the Sun different from a total eclipse? What causes this difference? In both annular and total solar eclipses, the Moon lines up precisely with the Sun, center on center. The difference is that in an annular eclipse, the Moon fails to cover the Sun completely, leaving a bright ring. This is caused by the Moon being farther away than usual – its orbit isn’t exactly circular – so that its angular size is smaller. Variation in the distance to the Sun also contributes, since Earth’s orbit is likewise not precisely circular. But the variation in Moon angular size is greater. 27. At what phase(s) of the moon does a solar eclipse occur? A lunar…

In Annie Dillard's “Total Eclipse” excerpt she definitely encourages the reader to experience a Total and Partial eclipse. Simply because she so descriptive starting with what color the sky was, to the scarf everyone had on. While maintaining focus on her personal experience painting out every thought and feeling felt in her mind during the moment. I do not know a thing about a Partial neither a Total eclipse but when it comes to the writer you notice the impact it had on her as a person to where she feels the need to point out how completely different they are.…

Instead of being about the solar eclipse described in the first paragraph, “Total Eclipse” by Annie Dillard, is about the eclipses in our everyday lives. Although she does go into detail about the eclipse, she spends more time discussing small details. Dillard spends more of the essay focused on minute details throughout the time leading up to the eclipse than the actual eclipse itself. The title “Total Eclipse”, is not talking about the solar eclipse; instead it addresses the eclipses in her life, such as the clown painting, the hotel lobby, the gold mines, and her time in the diner.…

The sun and the moon form part of our universe, where they both hold their own power and value. The sun is in the center of the solar system with nine planets moving around it. The light given from the sun helps us experience the day and the night. After the sun, the moon is the the brightest object in the sky. Though the light that shines at night does not originate from the moon, it is reflected by sunlight. Their differences from each other are responsible for the life that we live in this Earth. Knowing about the sun and moon we can relate their relationship to the Spanish and the Aztec. The Aztec hold the position of the sun. When they first settled on the swampy island called Tenochtitlan, it became…
