“Let me tell you what winning means… you’re willing to go longer, work harder, give more than anyone else.”(Lombardi). The famous NFL coach, Vince Lombardi agrees that hard work will lead people to accomplishing their goals, just like how Malcolm Gladwell points it out in his book, Outliers and Paul Tough who wrote in an article for the New York Times. Second, I agree with the following notion by Oprah Winfrey which states “luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity,” because preparation is a great factor when faced with any and all opportunities. When I am faced with opportunities I am always thinking of ways I can help myself prepare for said opportunity. For instance, I have observed how some of my friends will ask me to help give them a mock interview. Giving my friends a mock interview helped them to see their errors…

Some people believe that fate determines everything that happens in your life. While others believe that your hard work is what makes you successful. Which one is right? Two authors, Emily Dickinson and Malcolm Gladwell have the same statement, but which one better states that “How much of our lives do we actually control?” Emily wrote a poem that is called “Luck is not chance” this poem states that you have to work hard to be successful. Gladwell takes the same side as Emily, but Gladwell’s stronger evidence leads people to believe that he is better at proving the question “How much of our lives do we actually control?”…

To serve, as it does, to convince those with lack of motivation, or perhaps imagination, to remain stagnant with the hope that chance will smile upon them, the concept of luck is a farce. This is a truism that successful people understand. In fact, most successful people will state this truth almost as a proverb. For example, Oprah Winfrey has been quoted as saying, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” Oprah Winfrey has the innate understanding that luck isn’t really luck at all. In fact, luck is the culmination of hard work.…

It is genuinely fascinating how prosperous individuals approach problems. Where others see impenetrable obstacles, they see problems to embrace and barriers to overcome. Their confidence in the face of hardship is steered by the ability to let go of the negative attitude that holds most individuals back. A research done by Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania shows that success in life is driven by one key element, whether you have the belief that your failures are produced by your personal deficits beyond your control or that they are mistakes you can fix with effort. Success is not the only thing determined by your way of thinking. Seligman has found much greater rates of depression in people who attribute their failures to personal deficits. Positive thinking individuals fare better because they treat failure as a learning experience. They also believe they can do great in the future. Retaining the success mindset is not simple. There are things that specifically shatter it. These problems drag people down because they appear to be obstacles that cannot be overcome. However, this is not so for the successful ones as these problems never hold them back;…

Another may feel as if their hard work paid off. Preparing to do something typically is done with an end goal in mind, and luck is random. An example of this is; I submitted my resume online looking for a job. I got an e-mail for a highly profitable company with the most ideal position, that I did not qualify for, yet they offered me a job. I did not prepare for the job, nor did I have the proper education, but I was lucky enough to get the offer without being prepared. If I had the proper education for the position, I wouldn't feel lucky, I would feel like the education paid off the way I intended it to. So, is the opportunity where luck comes…

Joe Salatino is the President of the 35-year old company, the Great Northern American. Salatino gauges his success by the amount he pays his employees, and so far he has been successful. His sales team is a self-motivated and highly energetic. Their tactic is simple they motivate their 30 person sales staff with commission and bonuses. The quality and dedication of their employees is what has made this company the success it has become. Joe’s employees attribute their personal success to four main factors, ability, effort, task-difficulty, and luck. By this it can be assumed that they will succeed because they were capable of doing the job, that it their ability attribute. The effort attribute is because they logged the time, and worked hard at reaching their client base. Task-difficulty is easily overcome when the necessary effort is being made. This is how their success was achieved, because they overcame the difficulties. Finally consider luck. Even with ability, effort, task-difficulty they have to attribute a certain amount to luck. Consider time and mood of the individual to coincide with the luck of the employee. Joe’s employees do need to understand the importance of how people form perception and makes attributions. “It is not hard to see how the assumption that high job satisfaction leads to high performance came to be popularly accepted.” (Lawler & Porter 2008) It is equally safe to say that job performance and satisfaction is directly affected by ones personality as well. If one is well in control of their thinking and personality characteristics that will directly control their job performance and satisfaction. An example would be Susan, she has…
