Internal and External Factors of Management
Our team has been tasked to explain how external and internal factors affect the four functions of management at Chrysler LLC. Before explaining the effects of globalization, technology, innovation, diversity and ethics on management, a good understanding of management must first be explained. What is the need for management? One could easily think of numerous reasons that management is not needed. How often do we see that pesky manager in movies poking his or her nose where it does not belong? How many good heroes perish because of a bad leader’s decision? From childhood it seems as though we are conditioned to dislike our managers and overall those who are deemed superior in our employment organizations. For most, our first few jobs as fast food fry makers do nothing to alter this stigma. Only with time and experience do we realize the true value of good management and to truly succeed in such a position.
So what does good management take? Well, many would like to tell you about loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. While those defiantly are great characteristics of a true leader and management they are a bit out of place here. To stay on track the four functions of management need to be broken down. The four functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
Planning can be described as setting goals to be achieved and then deciding before the plan is put into action, what is needed to achieve these goals. A good example of planning is upper managers meeting and discussing the pros and cons of last year’s business growth or decline and what must be done to increase profitability. Good planning is very important for any business to be successful.
The next function of management is organizing. Organizing can be explained as taking the smaller photographs of a
