LIEUTENANT COLONEL CHRISTIAN J. CHEETHAM

Lieutenant Colonel Christian J. Cheetham is the Commander of Detachment 128 United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Program (AFROTC) located at the University of Delaware. He commands, leads and directs a college level officer training program while chairing the Department of Aerospace studies in his role as a full-professor.

Lieutenant Colonel Cheetham’s military career began when he enlisted in the Army National Guard in June 1984. He served 10 years in the 772d Military Police Company, Massachusetts Army National Guard and deployed to Iraq as a squad leader during Operations DESERT SHIELD and STORM. During his time in the Army National Guard he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6).

Lieutenant Colonel Cheetham was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1994 through Officer Training School, Maxwell AFB Alabama. His career includes an operational deployment as the Senior Intelligence Duty Officer in the Combined Air Operations Center in support of Operations ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM. As an intelligence officer, Lt Col Cheetham has served in key leadership positions, including wing intelligence officer, squadron director of operations, wing director of operations, and squadron commander..

Prior to assuming duties as the Commander of Detachment 128, Lt Col Cheetham served as the Deputy Group Commander of the 505th TEG. Previously, Lt Col Cheetham has held critical leader positions including: Commander, 547th Intelligence Squadron, 57th Adversary Tactics Group, 57th Wing, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; Director of Operations 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, Langley Air Force Base, VA.

Lieutenant Colonel Cheetham is a native of Massachusetts. He is married to Christy (formerly Tripp) and they have three children: Emma, Eli, and Elizabeth
