Love vs. Infatuation
Infatuation vs. Love

"Infatuation might lead you to do things you regret, but love never steers you in the wrong direction." The following quote is a very basic clarification of two words that are extremely puzzling, at times. The two words are love and infatuation, which are two types of ways to show affection to a special person. Occasionally adolescents, and even adults always think about a special someone, but does it necessarily mean that person is really "the one?" It can be easy to confuse infatuation and love because they have many similarities but differences as well.
Infatuation is when you are completely carried away by unreasoned passion. Usually one is inspired with intense but short-lived passion and admiration for someone. It is extravagant or foolish love. Some think that it may be the first step towards love and can grow into more mature love.
Infatuation begins when you seek out the most beautiful girl, cutest guy and so on. Love is blind. It isn’t affected by physical attraction, appearance, or even human nature. To truly love someone involves overlooking all flaws and imperfections.
Infatuation is a feeling; real love involves a commitment also. Infatuation is just love of emotion. Real love is love of devotion. Only the emotion are infected with infatuation, but in real love both emotions and will are involved. Next, a person “falls into” infatuation, but “grows into” love. Physical attraction is a big involvement with infatuation. You often don’t know much in-depth about the person you so-called love. When you lust someone you want them simply because they are physically attractive, or you are feeling sexually deprived or frustrated.
Infatuation is basically selfish where real love is selfless. Being infatuated is when your more interested in satisfying yourself and your feelings than it is in the other person. Real love is being interested in the other person. It seeks to give instead of get. Lastly, infatuation is weakened by time and separation where real love is strengthened by time and separation.
Love on the other hand is an emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. It represents human kindness, compassion, and affection. It is an interpersonal love; an experience felt by a person for another person. Love is more sentimental than simply liking one another.
There are three components found in every form of love. One being intimacy, which is when you decide to share various details about your personal life. Next, is commitment and that is when you decide to make the relationship permanent. Lastly is passion and sexual attraction. Passionate love is shown in infatuation as well as romantic love.
Love is patiently waiting for fulfillment of expectations. It is kind and respects the feelings and emotions of others. Love is not jealous and wants whats best for others. Love always covers and doesn’t criticize or broadcast to the world the faults of others. It is present even when it knows the other is not perfect. Love always stands its ground and holds out. It will outlast anything. Real love with last through all sorts of traits, tribulations, and stresses. It is not provoked or easily offended. Love does not behave disgracefully, dishonorably, or indecently. Lastly, love is forgiving and doesn’t hold grudges when it has been wronged.
Ever hear the saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder?” Separation only strengthens love. The longing to be together would only deepen the bond, rather than weaken it. Moving on, infatuation is short-sighted and short-lived. Distance and time are factors that severe the bonds in a relationship built on infatuation.
Furthermore, Infatuation is impulsive. It acts on instinct and on the spur of the moment. This form of affection doesn’t wait until the time is right, but rather chooses to fulfill its lusty desires with no regard for anyone else. On the opposite end of the spectrum, love is patient. Literally, love can wait forever, or at least until the time is right for it to blossom.
Scientifically, infatuation is the result of a series of chemical responses and reactions within the human body, this involves hormones and pheromones. The human brain reacts to sexual attraction the same way it reacts to thirst and hunger. Mother Nature made it this way to ensure continuation and survival of the species. Just like the body needs food and water, the same force drives it to want to mate and reproduce. True love cannot be explained by scientific means. It’s a sacred bond that withstands the test of time, which conquers every obstacle. It’s like gravity. You can’t explain that it’s really there, it just is.
Love and infatuation are similar because both show a sign of intense fondness between one another. They are similar because they are both share feelings between two people, they are positive aspects of their life. Love and infatuation are both strong feelings toward another person. Both show a sign of passion, which can be helpful in their relationship.
Fact is, we only lust people for their perfections, but truly love people for their imperfections. Love and infatuation have their place. There’s nothing wrong with experiencing either. Some of the best times in your life may be during brief periods of extreme, temporary emotion. They expire all too soon, but they leave you with memories and plenty of exciting and embarrassing stories.
